LGB Sprung Decouplers

Post by Nigel B » Thu Aug 17, 2023 2:40 pm

Behind the scenes on the FeckHallBahn

All of my G-gauge vehicles and all but two of my locos are equipped with LGB hook and loop couplings. As the railway is end to end AND ground level I use sprung LGB decouplers at each main line terminus (Hornundtrompetebahnhof and Kirschbaumimwaldbahnhof). These don’t always work, particularly with the two 2-6-2 locos which have the couplings mounted on the leading/trailing wheelsets. Getting these adjusted to both keep hold of a moving train AND uncouple reliably is a constant juggling act.

I’ve tried all sorts of weird and wonderful ways of solving this; eventually realising that the auto decouplers needed a tiny bit more height. Messed around with trying to increase the height by sticking things on top etc.

Scratching my head again this morning and wondering about plasticard strips. Suddenly - inspiration!! I’ve got a few lengths of 32thou” brass strip in stock. Cut two pieces per uncoupler - job done!!

Stupidly pleased with myself!!

Takes me far too long to get there though!! I was constantly admonished by my school biology teacher for my inability to apply Occam’s razor…

I know how you feel, takes me too long to get anything done. Always fussing over tiny things that don't matter.

Nice simple fix. :thumbleft:
