One sweet layout!

Post by drewzero1 » Sat Jun 03, 2023 7:32 am

I did a bit of modeling tonight using different tools and materials, and working in a different scale than the ones I usually do. This one-off project is for my son who is turning three this weekend and asked me for a train cake with a tunnel, a bridge, and a dragon. I think I just about managed to fit it all in. Usually he's challenging me to push my abilities making 16mm stock but tonight it was a baking challenge. Definitely keeps me on my toes!
A bit cluttered, but you only turn three once.

Hey, who checked the loading gauge on this tunnel?

That is absolutely brilliant Drew. Well done for both design and implementation! :salute: :thumbright:

Don't know why I didn't see the replies until now, but thanks! It was a big hit! I saved all the toppers in case a similar layout is called for next year.

Some notes for my future self, if there's a next time:
- Food color spray is awesome, but it needs to be used on a light/white background to show up properly.
- A second cake would be helpful. It was a tight fit to get it all in- but so many layouts are!
- Silver sanding sugar makes great ballast, but the red piping I was using for track wouldn't stick to it. Then I covered it all with train and scenery anyway so it just looked like a red mess.

He still talks about it excitedly, so I have a feeling I might be doing this again.
