Quick and easy hasp and staple (KISS again)

Post by Big Jim » Fri Mar 17, 2017 3:47 pm

Decided that some very simple vans I had needed detailing. Brakes and other bits and bobs will be done soon but I felt it needed something to keep the door closed.

You can probably get a casting for a hasp and staple but once again I wanted the job done now and on the cheap.

Two bits of micro strip cut to size and drilled and a small piece of micro rod.
The micro rod was held near a heat source to form a head. A lighter will do.

Stick the lot together with MEK and add a rivet head to act as a pivot. (Cambrian if you have one to hand or make one using the aforementioned method from plastic rod)

Paint and attach.
Total cost? B@@@er All, give or take.
Total time? Less time than it takes to read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest this post.

Nice one Jim, looks the part, just as it would be in 12" scale.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

Having seen your van running at CardiffMES on Sunday, this little detail makes an absolute world of difference to its appearance. I have one of these John Sutton vans too and I shall be copying your splendid hasp! (I also have his guard's van, and I think your door handles from the other thread will help enhance that)
