2018 has been an extremely interesting year for the railway we've gone from a small loop with a handful of track powered locos to a short but operational point to point railway with five battery powered locos and a heap of Australian locos in the pipeline. Hopefully the fair rate of progress keeps going into 2019. Ryan was interesting in having a run so he came over from the other side of town and along with Alexander and Darren at one point we had 4 trains running at once!
#14 Arrives at Badger creek with a long freight train. D1 Pulls an empty ore train around the mainline leg of the Wye past the NSWGR signal box. This was a model made for HO scale that i found on thingyverse by badgerbreath, The roof is aluminium BBQ trays from bunnings cut up to scale size and corrugated using a FIskars crimper. D1 and #14 depart the mine wye on their way back down the hill. all dressed up with no where to go! For some reason the signalman has put the stick "on the green" without any train present and with the points set against the road! Mine shunter A9 prepares to push back up the triangle while D1 waits in the interchange. the evening mixed leaves Badger creek D1 returns the last wagons of the day to the top of the line.

Looking good - I love the station building. 4 trains running at once sounds good too - in theory that's just about possible' i=n my line, but I've only ever managed two, and that was pretty hairy...

theres a few updates to go although I'm tipping progress will stall after tomorrow, its meant to be 42 degrees C here in Melbourne and I cant imagine myself doing much work outside despite having a trailer load of ballast to spread!

heres a few photos my father took of some of the other trains The driver of the battery electric is probably praying at this point. The twisting climb up the 1:30 is usually a fairly good test of an engines stamina. It made it to the top and somehow managed to acquire a train. Another fantastic model by Alexander this one always wins points for its portability. Alexanders tramway runs 32V overhead then uses a rectifier to bring it back to a clean 12v which is then fed into Deltang RC thus with a 12V+ battery and some wire to the trolly pole...

After we finished at home we took Ryan around to see the tramway. Recently returned to service boxcab FO24 is seen here taking a freight down the hill towards grasslands. Departing from Currawong back up the hill. Back in the Depot with the tramways Lyn.

What camera did he use as those shots are brilliant quality.

Good to see you using a crimper to make your own corrugated iron, always very handy for our type of structures.

Fascinating power supply to the tram system.
I always wonder how people who run overhead supply maintain a good contact between the trolley pole/ pantograph and the wires.
I like the nifty little battery electric loco too.

The tramways power supply is certainly different although it seems to work impeccably, people suggested DC but that doesnt come with the cost advantage RC has plus he already had the controllers for runnning his two battery steamers. The camera is a Sony A6000 with one very talented pilot apparently

It's certainly an affordable way of creating the miles of siding ill need! i find the thin aluminium is a bit delicate because its pretty much scale thickness. next project is a VR two track engine shed in the centre of the wye so ill need to get crimping again!

I see he uses a mirrorless camera, showing off the quality they produce.

The G scale central forum is littered with adverts, glad we moved to self hosting!

Can't be doing with adverts Tom. Thats why this is such a brilliant forum.

He certainly does do an excellent job, it can be fairly hard to coax him out to the garden but its always worth it! I'm hoping that now that the tracks all in I can focus my attention on more local rollingstock and on building scale retaining walls, buildings etc so photos like that are a lot easier to take.

Agreed, Not only is there adverts everywhere but I dont think the atmosphere is the same over there. I'm not sure why I bother posting as no one ever comments on anything over there! It's something that I think will be interesting to watch especially given how successful and busy garden railway facebook groups are these days. Much to be said for both formats.

Hi all, not much has been happening here, I've ballasted the entire line, time will see how well that holds up!
Quick shot of the triangle, The new point was given to me by a friend (thanks Dan!) and once I build another set of points hopefully there'll be a two track engine shed although given the current lack of storage sidings it might stay plain for a fair while yet The last new additions to the roster for a long long time, everything else will be made as there's simply nothing else I'm interested in. The Van will recieve an end wall and a repaint to become similar to a Mt lyell railway guards van. The coach will get a trial repaint into VR red and the hideous baggage van is likely to the get the chop in the not too distant future into something slightly more local...

Recently a program has been underway to use some 4 wheel underframes I acquired when i purchased two live steamers off facebook, they dont look particularly fantastic in the photos but outside they look fine. After I built a few I wondered if i could adapt that same body to fit on a number of bogie underframes I had spare heres the test run. They need to be widened slightly in CAD but thats really not a big deal. Till next time

Jake, have you printed those bodies as one piece from the floor up( floor+sides & end x2)?

Cheers guys, Theyre based off a South Australian Yx wagon which i will offer as a 3d printed kit in 1:24 one day. Theres a fair bit of fine detail in the frame though and I want to get that right.
They are indeed printed as one big lot, the 4 wheelers dont have a floor. the end beams locate them in place and the flatcars. The bogie wagons were designed to be functional ore cars so they have big holes in the floor that needed to be covered. If I was ever going to print wagons for anyone else I wouldn"t do it this way. My printer isnt quite feeding right which results in rough prints which many people probably wouldnt find acceptable but theyre fine to me.

Interesting. I always find a difficulty with printing thin double sided vertical items such as wagon sides. Apart from the issue with getting crisp internal corners for overhangs such as strapping, I find that they tend to bow inwards.
