Hi
Has any body converted the headlights on the darjeerling D Garratt so that they are working. I would be most grateful if you could explain how it is done

OK - I can't help you with battery placement, but if you look at:
http://mdlr.co.uk/loco21.html you will see how I adapted the headlights - not quite the same but you may find it'll give you pointers, The one thing I found was that the pre-drilled holes in the headlight castings were not QUITE big enough to take the miniature LEDs I used......... I was VERY reluctant to take a drill to a very expensive, brand new model!

I've done several Bs but not a Garratt, but my advice would be...
- Use a 6-volt "grain of wheat" bulb rather than an LED. The bulb gives a warmer, pinker light than the harsh white of an LED and is closer to the effect seen on the full-size locos (which are powered by a turbo-generator). See

- Tap in to the batteries used for the radio control rather than fitting a separate supply just for the lighting.
