There have been so many locomotive designs throughout the history of railways, some as experiments, others for efficiency or superiority. However, my personal preference would be one to show ingenuity, humour, practicality and entertainment. It also reached out to the masses when the country was in need of unity and to promote the success of British Engineering...... my choice would be.... 'Neptune'
Designed by Rowland Emett for the 'Festival of Britain', 1951, to give the country a boost following years or wartime austerity, this locomotive ran on 15 inch gauge track so would be easily transportable between various locations today. Built with IC powered tender it could be easily be reproduced today and give untold pleasure.

The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

You beat me too it with that idea. I was going to say a full-size Mamod. Pot boiler, meths-fired, etc...pippindoo:119022 wrote:A full size Roundhouse Dylan! That was a good looking loco!
More realistically, the Bagnall 2-4-0T that worked at the Vale of Rhiedol.

There's a group looking to do just that. We've the drawings, the patterns for wheels and a boiler design (100psi so we can use injectors).Mr. Bond of the DVLR:119019 wrote:A new build Lion would be first on my list I think!
Oh, and it would be to the original design, not the "what if" produced by the LMS in 1929......
All we need now is some ££££££££££££££ and a base to work from!
