Sorry - just re-read your other thread. I see it is alu - do you spot-weld them somehow?

Hi Rik,
The first one I bolted together, the second lot thought I'd use 1/8th iron rivets. These two are riveted with copper rivets, you can see them in the last pic. in the lower left hand corner. The aluminium just keeps getting thinner and thinner, (used to be 1.6, now 1.4mm) and it's getting harder to rivet flush into such a shallow countersink.

Got the underframes painted yesterday, after making the handbrake gear, and the timber floor and sides have all been cut for the open NQ wagon.
Today was spent in the blacksmith shop making the metal work for the opening side doors.
Two doors fitted with hinges, two to go.

That looks great. I like the timber sides- they look realistic. These will be good wagons when they're done.

Are those trucks plastic or metal?

The Fox trucks are white metal, with brass bearings, and a steel bolster. Sierra Valley wheels.

Sorry, no the fox truck castings are from Argyle Loco Works here in Victoria, as well as the wheel sets. I don't think they are available as castings any more, only as complete trucks.

Finally got all the steel work for the NQ wagon done and riveted in place today. This includes time spent on hands and knees looking for so many pieces I have dropped on the floor.
Pictured here with the older one.
The sides open and are removable, as are the centre posts and end bulkheads, just leaving the four cornerposts to carry anything long.
Next stop paint, Grant.

Finally got some paint on the wagon, working on a format for a data panel for all my stock. Here it is on the turntable at Leawarra.
