Oven gloves for use with live steam locos

In the 'Coopers of Stortford' catalogue are what are described as-
Pair of Coopers Cook's Gloves. £14:99
Apparently made of NOMEX technical fibres (developed for firefighters) tested up to 350 deg C dry contact heat. They are apparently soft, flexible, comfortable and machine washable.
My cynical side is thinking are these too good to be true?

Has anyone experience of these or similar for use with moving hot live steam locos?
My line is all very much on the ground and it is necessary, at the moment, often to steam a loco on a bench then transfer it to the track by hand. At the moment I use thick leather builders gloves but these aren't that good for the job.

I have never used them myself but I have seen colleagues in the motor trade using similar things when working on hot engines/exhaust systems.

Nomex is a flame resistant material. It doesn't offer thermal insulation. Firefighters tunics rely on insulating material for that. Once the heat penetrates the insulating material, you get seriously hot (and stay that way, until you can take the tunic off!)
Without seeing the gloves in question, I would not like to comment on their thermal insulating properties.

Lots of positive reviews, which I hadn't seen previously, but they relate mainly to the gloves use as oven gloves.

As you say, lots of positive reviews. Even thought they relate to ovens etc, they obviously do have pretty good thermal insulation properties (one mentions the liner sometimes coming out with your hand when you take them off). Being an open weave, you will need to avoid any contact with steam though.

iv used these gloves not for a loco but cooking etc .my mum has some there very good
