Brick colour first then a wipe over with the mortar colour. an easy railway quoin is to cover the corner in 1cm of thin wood each way then paint to look like its been plastered. Standard practice on high wear bits of station.

That's interesting - I do it the other road about! Once the mortar colour's gone off, I dry-brush the brick colour on and add splashes of white and black to break up the blandness of the same-colour brickwork. A wash of thinned "dirty black" helps as well!

see this is why I asked, I could see it done both ways but wondered which is better.
I like both methods but which is better...
I suppose there's only one way to find out....

I would do it brick colour first to avoid putting brick colour down the mortar. but dry brushing the brick colour after would work. so try it and see which gives you the best results.

Right, this is brick colour put on first then a sloppy wash of mortar splashed on. I finally found out how to get the motor off the bricks and leave it in the gaps. Wipe it off diagonally! Doesn't look too bad, a little more weathering and it will look exactly like the local brick. Now need to do the quoins and the ach brick. Thinking plasticity would do the trick. Then I'll plaster the interior and fit it out, maybe a small stove and a chimbley. Then onto the roof. I am thinking of doing real slate (god help me)
And this is only the little add on shelter!

Also did some clearance tests today which revealed a lot of gremlins!

Tunnel mouth is fairly generous...

but inside the loco scraped one of the walls...

Its my grandad's lady anne, on hire for clearence testing. Having little locos I forget about these things as shown here...

Size-ist remarks are only a smidge remove from gaugeism! Throw away remarks can be very hurtful (especially to someone who has this week had to turn down the offer of an Accucraft Garrett

Iv'e never been accused of sizeism before. On each railway there are limits that prevent larger than the size the track was laid for engines and stock from going round. Things like the radius of bends and proximity of unmovable stuff to the track. I invited some other 16mm ers to my line to try other stock and was pleased that with some minor changes the stock they brought round was able to run but My line would struggle with a garrett.

My throw away comment was aimed to mean if your stock can run without a problem then its not too much of a problem if other larger stock can't but of course it is preferable if you can sort it so most can operate without diferculty.

Thats enough hole digging for me!!

Been out in the garden today finally installing "Catchit tunnel" First I took apart the free standing bricks and terracotta and sunk the lowest bricks half into the ground on compacted soil and levelled them all off. Then the walls were built up, this time without objects fowling the loading gauge... This was all then cemented together
as was the terracotta roof.

Yes! It's lady anne proof. That will probably be the biggest loco we can have visiting the line.
Then I took a bag from the WHHR shop and layed it on top to prevent soil from going into the tunnel over time through the cracks in the terracotta.

Soil was then heaped on top and down the sides etc to cover it all up.

I then pushed about a few trains to check all the clearances. The soil was dug out from the river. In my mind's eye I see the railway meandering along the river, train reflected in the calm waters...

I then built some concrete foundations for my turn table ala MHLR

Finally two general pics of the train.
