Ace set of photo's of the working day, I reckon that this time of year is great for moody lighting.
On the 1:1 railway the views are better too with bare trees - I never did the Settle-Carlisle during the summer.

Nice one Keith, looks loads better. Sadly the wife won't let me knock down the fence & I need the shed!
Hopefully be able to disguise the shed a bit when I do the water feature that will be going there, the fence could be harder to disguise..

Maybe plant a load of 16mm scale tall tree like plants, and get some climbers growing up the fence.

Project LOL continues...

The aim being to improve on the basic IP Rapier using a budget of dear all & not spending much time doing it.  :D

The Criteria-
-To get rid of the wood look of the loco.
-To increase the weight so it has better tractive effort & can force points over.
-To make it unique.

So far then-
-Thin brass sheet plated over some parts.
-Weight doubled!
-Windows fitted.
-Battery box changed & underslung (Not done yet).
-Fit reverse (Not done yet).
-More detail (half done).
-New livery for the P-Way role. (Not done yet).
-Fit 4wd kit. (Not done yet).
- Fit proper coupler's.

So far it looks like this-





It will be painted gloss black & then weathered quite a bit to fit the look of its role on the line.

Well I did say it was project LOL, not very serious on this one.

The bad frost has taken it's toll on the line.....Well it's broken my water tower anyway!
The bottom was flat & now is pushed out quite a bit. Don't even know if its water tight now.


The rapier is almost done though, just waiting on some switches (On/Off & reverse).
Also need to number/letter the loco & then it's getting weathered a bit..






Should really of plated the front cabsheet as well to get rid of that woodgrain...

Oh dear, I've managed to burst one of my water towers twice now in the frost. Certainly something to look out for, and it almost certainly not be water tight anymore

what you need is a ping pong ball! It will stop any strain on the tower by taking the expansion of the ice.

TBH mate, I reckon it adds to the effect! Perhaps the original steel can sheet rusted away, so they just replaced it with ply wood lying around the back of the workshop.

I never would of thought of that, bit late now I guess but will apply that when I rebuild/replace it. They are only made out of my daughters Lactose free milk powder containers that I have about a million of (Do we as a group in general ever throw anything away?).

Yeah I suppose that may work. Since that test run I have done the numbers & letterwork, all painted on for that small P-way loco style. Even done an unofficial name on the sides, named it after my wife, Kate. She was very impressed to finally get one named after her. However I think she will not be best pleased when she see's how much real rust I have just applied to the loco!  :evil:   Well the story behind this one is that the CVLR bought the loco cheap of a bankrupt contractor who's job for this loco had been beach defences in east anglia. Having sat by the coast out of use as the company wound down the salt air has taken effect on the loco & however much paint the CVLR TMD chuck on it the salty sea air has already got into the metalwork & it soon come back through.
Well it's nice to know it's background.  ;)

Well after yesterdays hospital stay over with my daughter it was nice to get out in the garden today to let off some steam, especially as my daughter may have to go back in to hospital tomorrow. May have missed the proper snow but there were still some white bits & due to semi thaw the railhead was just ice in places which meant the first runs involved plenty of wheelslip & slide.

Firstly the plough that has been stood outside on standby all last week was propelled around to check it hadn't frozen up & to clear any debris that may have fell on the line.


Didn't take many pics today as I was busy enjoying the line & doing a bit of filming. The dusting of snow remaining certainly made a difference to the landscape though.


Spent most time photting the Countess though, still waiting to fit RC to her so she doesnt get run as much as the others at the moment. She put in a good display today though with two tanks of gas worth of running with no faults found.
Was pleased with some of the pics though even though photting a manual loco seems harder than an RC one on this line.






Of course No 12 had a bit of a run inbetween painting as usual.




At the end of the day the Plough went back to it's standby position just incase.

Good set of picks but I think that rapier may have seen better days...
Needs some compromis between the totally rusted bits and the non rusted bits.

Indeed it does Zach, it's still WIP. The big blobs of rust with the scabby metalwork will be staying, the idea of the less blobby bits of rust is to paint over them in matt black rather than gloss to hopefully give that impression of rust coming through the bodywork. Hopefully it should work out, otherwise it will be just a polka dot/chicken poxed Rapier.  :D  :D

Oh & then it needs its work stained sheen added as well.
