Whats Irish Peter doin in the US The states have great publications in respect of garden railroads I thought.

What am I doing in the USA? Working and avoiding the EU.

The unfortunate thing with the USA is that covering a large proportion of a continent it is incredibly insular. Yes, there are some excellent garden railway publications over here, but only if you are interested in U.S. 3' gauge prototypes, Gauge 1 and 7/8th scale. It is pretty much all logging line, Rio Grande NG, and Maine 2' - not even the Mexican systems get a look in.

Otherwise one has to be an overseas subscriber to a UK publication.

GardenRail can of course. Just go to website and click on the subscribe link and you will see that you can. Much cheaper to get the online version however.

A garden railway magazine should not be just LGB and 16mm it should be all gauges from 00 to 2ft Teddy Boston had a 2ft garden railway! Im rambling glad its on the shelf as you say its the only one and better one than none at all.

Yes indeed SMT would certainly be a seller. No comparison here however. SMT comes out four times a year. Therefore triple the price of 16mm membership to get the cover price if monthly. Then bear in mind that everything except the actual printing is done on a voluntary basis (indeed SMT is edited by GardenRail's Production Editor in his spare time). Add the cost of paying for submissions (would you submit articles for free if the mag was sold commercially?), trade and advertising work and you would be lucky to get change out of a tenner per issue. This of course would not be viable because people would not pay it.

GardenRail covers all scales in use in the garden. The majority are of course G1, 16mm, 1:20.3 and 1:22.5, but we have also done 0 gauge, G3 and the odd 'ride on.' The latter have their own magazine of course, but we need to address the people that are out there –and the most of them do the scales that we cover most!

Having subscribed to the strictly commercial Garden Railway magazines in both the US and the UK, I am prepared to give Garden Rail a whirl if it is possible for it to be posted to the USA.  After all, I model GB&Ire prototypes, and am orientated towards 15/16mm.  The trade rag over here is basically a 'wogs begin at the 49 parallel' publication, usually lacking any non-US content.
