I always take along one of my LGB engines I have converted to onboard battery power. Sometimes just a couple of us steamers show up, so sometimes one of the 2 loops isnt being used much so I will put the battery power engine with a short train on so that something is running while steamers raise steam or are stopped for servicing. Sometimes I do not use the engine at all as several steamers show up and we have plenty of engines in steam for the duration of the show. There is always a place to run. I have an overhead loop around the ceiling of my little house, it has LGB R1 curves, so only small engines and cars and if I am careful, ie raise steam on the kitchen counter then set the engine up there, I can run live steam indoors.
