Great fun! I've only just caught up with this thread and it's been marvellous to see how your railway has developed and grown.

There's a model engineering society in the next town which isn't so surprising really as A&G Price Engineering who built steam locos for the New Zealand Government Railways are also there. They have an extensive ground level line running through a large reserve and when I was still able to drive I used to go over there on open days and their big steam up meetings.

Amazing thread. Seriously got me thinking about our garden now.....What would be the minimum radius curves for a small 0-4-0 7.25" steam or battery electric? 8 foot I suppose from reading your thread?

My 0-6-0 steamloco needs at least 8meters radius, not diameter! Hence my garden is to small.

We are lucky enough to have 3 sections of garden and the middle section is just shy of 20ft wide therefore allowing for 16ft diameter..... I'm thinking out loud here but in theory that could be a return loop back to a steam up area. A simple balloon run......

Yet again I have left it far too long without updating this thread.......

Quite a few things have been happening; new rolling stock, a loco rebuild, and another kensey valley visit.

The plywood body on the whitcomb finally rotted out so I built a new steel body, "inspired" by a Ruston LAT:

Nice wagon - I like the prototypical arrangement with the load being taken by the bars running through the chassis. Where are the wheels from?

The wheels are 2nd hand ones from a friend; his father had started to build a 5" gauge model of "mountaineer", but didn't get beyond the wheels and frames.

These would have been drivers, i had to cut & sleeve the axles to regauge.

And the railway really isn't that big - the main loop is in a space approx 20' x 60'.....
