OK. Here is a standard gauge vehicle. Can anyone tell me what it is, where it is, and how it's been altered from as-new in a very fundamental way?


Image has been photoshopped to remove the company name from the vehicle, otherwise it would've been all too easy.

Secondly: Would that be a former travelling circus vehicle (loco hauled) converted to a combine railcar?

Nope, though I like the way you think. It WAS converted, but from a regular passenger car (though that wasn't what I was looking for- perhaps the question could have been clearer)

Mm interesting. It seems to be equiped with a headlight (though not much of one), radio comms and cow catcher. So presumably this is meant to be the driving vehicle (albeit possibly unpowered).

So, wild guess, is it some kind of Driving Van Trailer for a push-pull service?

Has it been de-electrified?

M de C: Nope. It's never been electric or AFAIK worked on an electrified line*

Invicta: Nope, it's not an unpowered driving trailer. Just to be clear, my "no" to your previous answer was only to it being converted from a circus car.

*Small clue. The line it lives on has a junction WITH an electrified main line.

Clue 1: When I took the picture I was visiting the location with my other half, but she'd been there before (and I hadn't)

Clue 2: This can be found at the same place.



Clue 3: Whilst this isn't quite at the same place, you can see it from there, and get a close look from the window if you take a train ride.

Just spoke to TommyDodd on the phone as he's on late shift, and he said "2 out of 3 is close enough". You missed out it's location, which is at the Strasburg Railroad in Strasburg, PA (where I'm fromish!)

Well, it's a quiz. Questions don't have to be based around a photo, though they are nice.

If you really want to show a picture there are two ways. First, in the "Post a reply" screen, right below where you type your response there's a small hyperlink Attach File , and if you click on that a window will open to let you browse your own computer and upload a suitable image. TIP 1 make sure it's a reasonable sized file, or it may take all day or cause the server to have a brainf*rt, TIP 2 change the filename, because names like "Visiting Meyer loco at Zittau August 2008" sorta give the game away.

You can also link to an image already up on the web somewhere. Just copy the image location and paste into your message body, then enclose it in image tags- the img button below the subject line, or img in square brackets immediately before and /img in square brackets immediately afterwards

NB: Reading your answer I notice a slight discrepancy. It was the LO&S who converted it from a passenger car, and it did run as a railcar on 3' metals for a while. You were still close enough, though.

Me again? Who built these locomotives, and where was this picture taken? (Exact location preferably, but I'll take country if people struggle).
