Looking great. Just some foliage & stuff & it will look like a proper railway. I like the idea of building a railway into soil. It's realistic & means you can get moss on the track but you need to maintain it.
I know from my tiny 5 yard stretch that the soil erodes VERY easily. At first on my track bed, flooding was an issue, that was solved then the erosion was solved with some gravel beneath the soil. Now, it's weeds that are pi$$ing me off but I'm also not allowed to build a railway due to the fact that A; I don't live alone yet & B; we move so many times that a permanent railway is just a bad idea.
I've lived my life so far in 5 houses. The first in Shropshire for three years, then a place down the road for nine, then Cheshire for less than a year, we stayed in another place down the road for a few months before moving to the house I live in now. We are playing with the idea of moving to Somerset but it might not even happen.
I'm not going off garden railways but I'd like a small line that can be lifted up when we move & put together at the new location. Sectional track would be great but I can only find Mamod track which is not the best.
Keep up the good work Mr Bond

I've lived in 11 houses including ones in other countries
The track is not built in the soil, It is built on two layers of bricks built into a sort of underground wall. Onto this the track is attatched with wall plugs and screws. It was then all nicely ballasted. It would still look like that if the RUDDY cats diddn't spend all of their time digging soil onto the track when finding a place to poo, then poo on the track. Then shovel more soil over it!!!!! Most enfuiating! (hence also the name of the tunnel)

It would be so nice to live in Somerset because I'll be able to get to more railway events, I could easily find a classic car to buy (only rot boxes in Scotland due to dampness) & I've sort of got the accent so I'll make friends in no time. It may not happen though so I've got my fingers crossed that I'll live there in a couple of years

Great idea. Try car under seal as it has a rough texture that will look more like soot. That it if it comes out in a matte colour.Mr. Bond of the DVLR:47915 wrote:After a few days the soil has stayed in place and the cats haven't done too much damage. I may spray the roof of the tunnel grimey black.
As for the soil, give it a few weeks before calling it a success. Soil erosion isn't instant, it'll take time

What on earth has playing some sort of brass instrument got to do with this thread??There has been alot of bugling going on
Please try and stay "on topic" and set an example Mr. B.
I'd advocate losing as much soil as possible from around track and infrastructure, it leads to no end of trouble. Replace it with Rowlands Mix (biased towards compost in the ratio) for something more manageable.

Too expensive for me. If I could use some 0 gauge track that would be brill as it's cheaper than narrow gauge track. How's that?MDLR:47926 wrote:Peco do "Setrack" curves of 2 foot 6 inch radius.............Hancockshire:47837 wrote: I'm not going off garden railways but I'd like a small line that can be lifted up when we move & put together at the new location. Back to my railway...
Finally started work on the deck of Haddon bridge, once I get some suitable hinges it will become a lift bridge to allow boats to pass under...
The strengthening batons

Also cast one of the platforms at Woodbridge.

Station half constructed.

Haddon on MY line hasn't got a bridge at all - it's got a cutting, a hall and an (imaginary) station - see http://tinyurl.com/4qgsnj4 for the Google Maps reference.............
