A new loco for the WVLR

Post by WVLR » Wed Oct 16, 2013 12:19 pm

This is Millie, a small diesel outline battery loco made from laser
cut ply and built on an IP Engineering budget chassis which has
been modified by fitting metal gears and 4 wheel drive.

Underneath the loco is the on /off switch and a 2.1mm charging
socket for the 4.8 volt 1500 mah Nimh batteries which are located
in the cab and hidden neatly away under the dashboard.

A Planet 5 radio control and ESC for speed and forward / reverse
are fitted under the bonnet.

Oh My Good Night - under that bonnet is CRAMMED! However, I don't suppose you have to go in there very often, unlike us battery changers...............

under that bonnet is CRAMMED!
You should see under the bonnet of my IP Rapier :D

I have a directional light controller under development
(Prototype working) which I'll probably fit in there as well.

I feel a stiff drink coming on. I have a so-so relationship with anything electrical, but these rat's nest wiring jobs just fill me with a moderate form of terror.

That is a nice neat model.

What ESC are you using on this?

That is a nice neat model.
Thanks, the ESC is a cheap Chinese one that I bought off ebay,
there's no documentation with it, it has a couple of quirks but it
seems to work OK, it's only a temporary measure as I have my
own design of ESC under development which gives directional
lighting as well as fwd/rev speed control. The prototype is in one
of my other locos Standish Hall.

Not the best of video clips, taken on the mobile phone in the rain.

It's a lovely line and I'm privileged to be able to run my locomotives
and rolling stock on it each week.

Any photos of 2012 Brian?

I thought you did, you certainly took some video, every time you tried to film the Rapiers someone (our host) talked over the top, you got it on about the sixth attempt :D
