Allen- Some times the girls just want to drive more then the boys. I make sure to get a go of it every weekend we play trains, I mean work.
Andy- We are working to get some video shot. Its a slow process. Even though we have cameras in the engines and most cabooses, we like to watch it live, so we just end up playing, I mean working all weekend. But we are slowly working on getting some video.
Brian- Do you mean a Garratt? "boiler central"? or am I just not understanding. If so, the Garratt is an interesting locomotive. I agree, it is a shame.

It's his roundabout way of criticising the 'aesthetics' (or lack thereof) of a Shay.gringodon:86942 wrote: Brian- Do you mean a Garratt? "boiler central"? or am I just not understanding.
If the Brit's had ever built a Shay, it would have had a central boiler, like the one rebuilt by Ford, because the offset boiler offended Henry's sensibilities. For that matter, a British co. in Mexico was responsible for the only left-handed Shays to be built.
Make the most of it with the girls, before you know it, they'll be teenagers and wouldn't be seen dead driving Dad's trains.
Regards,
Graeme

Paul - The seaplane wagon pair was all busted up when I received them. I had to build mounts and repair the pieces, but I was not the original creator. They are a nice pair.
Chris - the device on top of No.59's chimney is called a Ridgway by the inventor but later became known as a Bear Trap. It is a type of spark arrestor that has a tube for the larger pieces to fall onto the ballast along the rails.
It looks like another very nice weekend coming up for us on this side of the pond. So we will be once again out in the yard with the trains enjoying one of the many things this life experience allows.

Here are a couple of photos I ran across. The C&S #59 was mounted with a 5 watt LED into the head light. It was so bright that it looked very un-prototypical, so I backed it off to 1 watt. Now at night it nicely lights up the rail way down the track.

With darkness arriving so much earlier, I thought I'd try another night shot. This photo was taken with a 25 second exposure at f8. The line of light is from the headlight of a Bachmann 3-truck shay headed down the mountain.

The lantern on the back of the logs has a small red LED mounted into it with a flicker circuit mounted down by the wheels. The idea was to try and make it look like a flame was burning inside. Power to run it is picked up from the rails.
