I have a small scar on my Bertie , so I spent a bit of time checking the track over and sorted out a bad camber around one of the bends and now it seems great.

When I first got my Edrig I pushed it down the extension for some photos, and the slate fence is incredibly close at one place, I heared a 'scrape' and looked down to see a scratch, I hadn't had it for more than two hours ! Since then it's done a 180 degree roll at a friend's railway chipping the paint in two places, but I can't worry about it really because I hope I'm never going to sell them.

As you can see it pauses for breath in a couple of places, which I quite like, so happy with that.  Other than that all was going well until my wife came up the garden to ask how things were going.  At which point it came off the rails, and I've gained a scratch in the paint work.  oh well, it was going to happen sooner or later and at least I didn't buy it new.

I noticed it runs a bit better after every circuit. It's propably not run in yet. It will run faster each time you use it untill it's fully run in, so you need to turn down the regulator each time to prevent a runaway.  :?

I reckon that reverse curve section in the front is crying out for a passing loop!  :D

This loco doesn't run away, I made an exhaust regulator for it, so the exhaust steam has to force its way out of a tiny opening.

The track has the odd bit of concrete and dirt on it so that will be getting cleaner with each circuit, it is a mix of old and fairly new track and it takes a while for the mamod paint to wear off.

Sorry Oily, see what you mean. Bertie doesn't seem to run so smooth as the mamod

Not sure how much the previous owner used him so maybe some more running in to do, or some better driving skill needed from me getting the gas and steam regs set just right.

The mamod is very well ran in so goes very smooth.

I know this is a very old thread (2008), but I can't help myself from bringing it up as it seems to be very similar in size to what I am planning. What is the size of this layout? And the radius of the curves? And if Chris is still here; what are the conclusions 5 years later?

Mamod track has a radius of 2' 6" (762 mm).
