Any Japanese translators?

Post by Narrow Minded » Wed Mar 28, 2012 9:22 pm

This is a "Help Me" but definitely "Off Topic", but can anyone on here read (and translate to English) Japanese?

Not me personally, but which ..er.. set of ideographs?

I note that above there is kanji, hiragana and katakana, which probably isn't too helpful.

Difficult isn't it?!
If I knew which Kanji were used I'd certainly tell you but I haven't got a clue ;)
I play Shogi (the Japanese version of chess) and have managed to get hold of a program so that I can play while touring on gigs etc. I've sussed how to play but the extra features such as "save/resume saved game", "set difficulty level", "replay game" etc (and I suspect there's "Tsume Shogi" or Shogi problems on there too), will be a dear to suss out :?
I just want to try and get the best out of the program.

Ah. Ok. The easiest way I can think for a possible solution involves a smartphone. Do you have one?

 I'm not much help at helping myself am I - sorry, no I don't have a smartphone.

Just to let you know, I've tried:~
The Shogi Federation on line
Googling the game title and "translation"
Various searches on YouTube
and contacting Matthew Foster (awaiting a reply with the time zone difference) ;)

Shame - the smartphone solution involves taking photographs of the laptop screen and running them through google goggles.

I've found it very helpful in the past.

I've heard of Beer Goggles, but Google Goggles is a new one on me  (Mind you, I  at "smartphone - mine's one step up from the type that had a battery the size of the 'phone!) I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to all this new fangled gadgetry ;)

Thanks for the (attempted) help anyway

That's what I was hinting at with Google Goggles... or in the spirit of the moment: それは私がゴーグルとヒンティングされたものだ....

Problem sorted (I hope) ;)

I've managed to contact another Shogi player with the same program who has previously had the menu's translated by someone fluent in Japanese :D
