Merry Christmas...
Had a really good steam up today and shot this video which should have been shot last week.
Still getting used to R/C but it really is much improved. I actually enjoyed running this loco on this railway for the first time! No running up the garden like a lunitic!

Will bring as many locos as working when ever I am in the area! Thanks for the invite!Maybe you should bring 'River Deben' up to Butterley next summer
All change soon- soon to have a half cab and be painted in the proper DVLR colours...A lovely looking loco and the proper colour too!
Standard summerlands chuffer. They sound really nice at slow speeds.that's a nice healthy chuff you have there
I really enjoyed going out into the garden for a guilt free run (lots of revision to do just not on christmas day!)Great stuff Mr Bond, I'm highly jealous! I can't wait to get out for a run!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Just to put one or two out of their misery as to the mysterious track layout I will post an up to date track diagram. The bits of line just in pencil are bits to be laid, the bits in bold black are already laid. To give you an idea of scale the back wall of the garden (short edge of the paper) is slightly less than 5 meters.

Whats been happening at the DVLR?
Well, not alot due to exams and nagging parents and having to get an A* and two As. BUT, there has been a big development!
Cast your minds way back to the days of the shelf railway...
(wobbly flash back transition)
There was a large bridge which hinged up to the side of my shelf which supported the railway as it crossed the large gap between the shed and the flower bed.
Well...
New steps have been built the top one being almost the same level as the flowerbeds, so now all I have to do is lay the tracks on top tram way style in concrete!
New hole required in shed
Track was just plonked down, the domestic authority knows not of this plan yet...
Careful negotiations are in order!

I suppose its too late now to get the angle grinder out and cut a channel for the track to sit flush in - so yep, it's gonna get kicked, walked on and of course the bikes are gonna be in and out.
You could try LGB track - a couple of sections of the W&LLR get pretty much the same treatment and though we've not actually had an elephant walk on the rails as per the classic advert, it's survived

I've been a little busy recently today with the back corner round from Aldeburgh. It will be (when matured) a little forest. I have used some trees from other areas where they were getting too dry so some of the trees look a little tired and brown (or have had the brown bits cut off) so hopefully they will recover soon!
I haven't laid the engine shed branch bit yet.
Before:
After:
Also saw that the bulbs were coming up all over the garden so took a few pics.

Had an interesting problem the other day...
Train got stopped by mushrooms!
Then another loading gauge problem occurred, a large tree got blown away from the wall by wind...
It was really heavy and the old wall needs as little stress as possible so it was out with the saw...
Lots of tree in the garden!
Next I removed the rotting leaves from the pond and re activated the pump. The pond got very muddy as a result of the silt being stirred up so looked more like the actual river deben!
Then found some sprouting bulbs in a packet and slung them in wherever possible for a bit of spring colour.
And then had a steam up having bought some more gas from the local newsagent (and having proven that I needed the gas for my garden railway not to put up my nose...)
And lastly I ended off the other end of the river with this road bridge.

Looks like you had a fun(gi) time, but just how did you convince the newsagent that it was for your garden railway??
Seriously though Zach, it looks like you had a busy and productive day, well done!
Ever compared your "viewcount" to comment ratio?
