PTLR Fest 2011

Post by laalratty » Sun May 29, 2011 9:52 pm

Well it was nearly a month later then usual, but it was well worth the wait as the North West Area Groups biggest steamup of the year took place at the Pine Tree Light Railway. There must have been 30 locos to have turned a wheel today, Roundhouses, Accucrafts, a Cheddar Hercules, mamods and everything in between! Peter Angus turned up again and bought along three of his lovely geared locos, whilst the home fleet included two of the resident mamods. Here are a few of the many photos I took today
Image
Honour of first steamer went to PTLR cecils Lyn with the heavy GRS Isle of Man carriages
Image
Bungle had bought along both Cumberland and his mamod which hadn't run since an appearance at my line in 2008!
Image
Ingleton Mountain Railway were represented as usual, this time by Duncan the Roundhouse Billy
Image
Cheddar Hercules on the level crossing, with the new mascot on the tender
Image
One of the great events of the day was the grand return to service of the world's most powerful mamod "Black Beauty". Even though the train wasn't the 22 wagons the youtube video shows, the performance was still very impressive
Image

Meanwhile I ambitiously brought along 6 carriages to go behind the Superior, which it handled fine. Black Beauty was also briefly seen pulling all of them!

Guillimot, and a sky that improved from very overcast to beautifull sunshine by mid afternoon

The Linda that formerly used to belong to Sir Haydn at Pine tree Road. Its owner was not present, however Jools has had it recently for fixing a leak on the gauge glass

Guillimot and the steam roller Blackberry

Mamods at Coppermill, including a lesser spotted PTLR sam mamod!

Image
After the rush of trains had quitened down (it had got extremely busy at times!) me and PTLR cecil ran the traditional NWAG massive double headed trains. Locos chosen this time were our two Superiors, and once again with rather a long train....

*Mr Bond, look away now...."

Image
The longest passenger train in PTLR history!!! My 6 carriages added to the PTLR's 5 Isle of Mans to make an 11 carriage super train that even the two Superiors struggled to drag up the 1 in 60 of the Cross Garden Rail Link!
Many thanks to all those at the PTLR for a supurb day running trains. Hopefully the presence of Bungle means that there will be an awesome video of the day on youtube, just like 2008 and 2009
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Superb shots & some lovely stock on the line as usual. Love the super coach set... 11 on, well why not. Wish you would stop posting pics of mamods working. I always get hope that mine will ever work when I see ones actually moving.
Tommy Dodd may have an ARS key but I have a TASS button & a Rope Ladder, just like pirates, except the TASS button bit.

The P-way staff actually appear to be working rather than drinking tea & talking about football?
