I didn't use the correct colours, I used black and cream/white. I just used black spray and for the white on the bug box the thickest line of tape that you get on trimline rolls did for the upper panels, and it's quicker. I bought this to line the end in the thinest line. As for the proper colour in a spray I don't know but I'm sure there must be a car colour that would suit. Tne actual lining is gold and red, I just used gold because I didn't think that I could get a scale red line and thought I might ruin it if I tried. I think it looks alright with just gold personally. I stck the trimline tape to the side of the overlay but I don't know what the brandbright coaches are like so I don't know if this is possible.

The coach colour is LNWR railway plum which you can get to brush on from precision paints aswell as the cream. The lining is red and gold on the cream and red, gold, cream on the plum

Just remembered I have a chart telling me which railway colours approximate to readily available aerosoles. LNWR plum apparently approximates to Daewoo dark red and the cream is daewoo casablanca white. Although I don't know hw good that is or where to get these, I would say your best bet is precision paints

That sounds like an interesting chart!! - any chance of a copy in the reference library (assuming no-ones copyrights are infringed of course!

I think I found it on the 16mm e group and I believe it was created by andy sleigh, so I'll PM him to see what he says.

I found LNWR blackberry to be a better match from phoenix for vintage stock the lining is actually a pale yellow and not gold. Seen on the curly roof van last year!

So I need to order LWNR Blackberry or LNWR Plum and LNWR Cream then?

Has anyone got any photos of the lining and or know what way round the colours go from the outside inwards?

from what I saw of the bug box last year I noted it was outside to inside: Cream, gold, red.

I used Plum on a customers vintage rake

Well to be honest I think im just gunna stick with gold for simplicity.

And yeah an FfR rake of some sort, proabably 2 more ashburys (3rd Class) and then i would like to do all five of the bug boxes and hopefully the flying bench in the end, but it depends on time and money as with everything else

I have done a rake with all 3 colours on believe me you need a hell of alot of patience! I did it with the lining pen with 3 templates for each different sized panel.

Haha the more I think about it the more I think sod that! its more effort than im willing to put in, it may look nice at the end of the day but ill be happy with just gold, im not a very patient person anyway so ill have a nice coach one minute and a pile of bits the next after it gets hurled across the room

Wooden kits are a sod to line as it is. I lined one side of a coach a day! That was the only thing that I could do to stop me loosing my mind.

I just used the gold, from a distance I think you only notice the gold, by doing all three lines i thought it might become too thick and ruin the impression. Can't remember whether I mentions, but they had white/cream lining on the ends.

Hi Tom,

You only need the LNWR plum (get gloss) from Phoenix.

The white from them has a blue tinge as it did have to counteract the brown tinge of copal varnish.

Modern varnish can be had clear so the blue isn't needed in the colour.

Be aware that Phoeinx (precision) paints dry slowly!

Type into a search engne (for images) Festiniog Railway victorian coaches and also look on the Ffestiniog Railway website where there are plenty of photos for dowload.

Their Ashbury coach is all over brown colour by the way.

Go for blackberry LNWR as from experience this is a better match and you will need loads of coats with the LNWR plum to get the rich deep colour of the original. Dont use gloss I dont think Phoenix do it anyway use dull and if u want gloss then use a satin varnish after applying your transfers. Cream is cream but it is a light one nearly white The yellowish tint is from the weathering of the varnish on the prototype that has made it look creamier
