Bit more progress, the track has been extended to a head shunt and then back again over the point and looks OK. The older track is already weathering nicely!

Terracotta cutting really adds to the cottage garden feel I am going for.

The first steam on the line was today! River Butley and the fitted carriages trundled up and down. The point caused a litle trouble but other than that all was satisfactory!

Thanks for all he comments! The line is rather too short at the moment, even shorter than how it appears in the video. Next to be extended is the Holesley branch (the bit the train reverses down having gone out of Woodbridge station), that will go all the way down to the end of the flowerbed and under Woodbridge town and should end in a quarry balloon loop. Yes, I am having a quarry! Not of the type you'd be thinking of though... Its a Phosphate nodule quarry. In the Suffolk rock (Red Crag) there are lumps of phosphate which Victorian geologists believed to be fossilised dinosaur poo. It was discovered that by dissolving in sulphuric acid it would make a valuable fertiliser (most important to an agricultural area) Superphosphate. The quarries would only have been around 10m deep at most as reg crag is found above a layer of London clay and is reasonably shallow. This all gives me the perfect excuse to have another station, an unfeasably tight radius balloon loop and some nice dirty, stained mineral wagons. I love my loco area!

Alternatively you could look at www.minaco-uk.com , someone built a station from a jacksons miniatures kit and clad it with these bricks. Not exactly the right scale but the 1/24th scale ones look good

Well, the cats seem to be doing there bit for renuability, ensuring there is fossilised poo in the garden for many years to come grrrr.
Anyway...

Been working on the branch line to Bordsey quarry with another two lengths of track down. The railway on this branch was layed very lightly and is not expected to see much passenger traffic. I had to build the track behind my rose and infront of mum's tree like plant (name escapes me) so the railway has developed a nasty double S curve of rather tight radius! Still, it all adds to the light railway image...
My two layers of bricks method of laying track seems to be working well providing a sturdy track-base. In these pics I have yet to water the ballast to make it go off so it looks a little bright!
