Edrig Add ons?

Wheres the best place to buy 'add ons' for my Edrig?
I'm looking for a regulator to begin with, but going to add otheres, one thing I've seen people do is 'glass' in spectcles, where can these be found?
Also a last question, can my reversor lever be painted red with humbrol enamel?

Humbrol is good for fairly high temprature as I repainted a mamod with it so go for it.

I recently started a list of mods that i want to add to my Ragleth when it arrives - quite a bit of this should be transferable to Edrig i imagine? Please bear in mind that I'm a total noob to this stuff, so if anything seems crazy/redudant please feel free to tell me so

Anyway, I thought that as edrig is really similar to ragleth it might be fun to share this with you and see what other people recommend / think should be added?

I've not looked at replacement regulator handles or other controls yet - think I need to get the loco and figure out how it all works first.. wasn't really sure what i was looking for to be honest.

I think a working steam whistle might be required too

A lot of the ideas came from Tag Gorton's Live Steam Workshop - I found this an excellent read, especially for a total novice like me!

I've seen a bunch of replacement gas valves advertised - to convert to UK spec? do i need one of these? A water top up system might be nice too - any recommendations? and um.. working drain cocks? or perhaps some fake ones?

Also some little tools and buckets etc - any places to get them?

Oh and i reckon i might paint the cab interior cream and use some wooden coffee sticks to make a wooden floor in the cab if there's space around all the RC gubbins.

Narrow planet plates are about £5.00 a pair

Crimson lake buffer beams?? buffer beams are normally post box red

The GWR head lamps will only fit GWR lamp brakets as the lamps are side locating. If you are using normal brakets get the LMS pattern lamps

All looks ok there, apart from the buffer beams (as Matt said, post box rather then crimson lake) and also I'd say go for the ACME chuff pipe rather then the summerlands. It is cheaper at £20 and also sounds much better by making the right "type" of chuff, rather then one that is trying to be as loud as possible.

I was going to list what I planned for my Edrig, but for some reason I can't find the most important bit I was after now. Thought it was from DJB?? Anyway it was an upgraded burner, around £30 I think & you had to send in your old one. It was to be the first item to be replaced as currently my Edrig would only make about one lap of the garden before it ran out of gas it's that poor (& the lap is quite big!) . After that it was replacement gas tank & reg from ACME. Regulator handle after some of the more snobby 16mm Roundhouse only brigade said that my Edrig (when it was new) looked like a camping stove with its plastic handles. Then finish of the RC & fit a DJB whistle if the gas conversion had improved running times. Then details like safety chains etc & to top it off a simply 7/8ths 16mm Baldrig conversion, the one with the extended tanks.

Oh & nameplates etc as well & a respray into black.

seems i'm the only one that wants a darker red for my buffer beams! hehe, at least i'll stand out from the crowd i guess?

anyone know if ragleth has the same burner as edrig? they also do some nice handles and a safety valve cover it seems.

Whatever you do, NEVER get the "Buffer Beam Red" Rail colour from Humbrol, the first coat turned out more pink than red.......

and why does your gas tank last so shortly Pendo??? that doesn't sound right, mine usually on a normal run lasts about 20ish mins if i don't decide to refill the tank after warming the boiler!

Ninge, yep thats the one I was looking for. I had saved Milton in my favs but its gone AWOL somewhere??

As for why my Edrig runs out so fast? I don't really know. I've fiddled with it a bit & have not managed to get it any better. The best run I ever had out of it was about 12 minutes (running time that is). But I had the gas turned down so low that it was stopping to build pressure up all the while. With the gas turned up to produce reasonable pressure all the while I'm down to sub 10 minutes usually. If I pre heat I can stretch it out to 11 max on a good day.

Infact it's become that unworkable that I rarely steam it up now, seem to use the others instead. Hence why I want to get it running good.

yeah cause that really isn't right! The longest i've ever had with a pre heated boiler and gas really low was a shade under 40 mins! and the pressure stayed at a steady 45psi. I would have contacted Accucraft about that! which reminds me, i needed to contact them about something, but i've blumin forgotten now!

In hindsight I should of, however I bought it a while back when I knew very little about live steam stuff besides mamods. If I had been on this forum then I'm sure I would of twigged that it was not right. However it's still better than my mates as his seldom lights & when it does it struggles to actually move itself. At least mine has a fair bit of power.

Never painted buffer beams so haven't used a certain colour, my grandad used a darker colour on his bertie and that looked quite nice.

I'd also like to replace my Accucraft burner, though I get decent running with my Baldrig, I can't stand the racket! (even with a gauze fitted - which helps, and a chuff pipe - which drowns out some of the noise!)

However, I'm a bit reluctant to send off my burner with the order, just a bit nervous about losing it for whatever "mishap" might be waiting for it on it's travels

Does anyone know of an alternative supplier? Failing that, is anyone aware of what would be involved in fitting a Roundhouse replacement??

Can anyone recommend any alternative suppliers for detailed buffer beams for Edrig/Ragleth? I see Acme have some on their site but they appear out of stock and i'd like an alternative to the alan briggs ones if possible.
