I know Keith, always seem to find other bits & bobs to spend the budget on at the moment. Will sort that out in the long run though & lining on some of them.

Well Saturday afternoon we had the worst weather since I built the line as it is now. Thunder & Lightning combined with flash floods mean't the roads around here had quite bad flooding with a lot of the fields ending up on the road. Came back home & checked out the line expecting the worst!!

Turns out it coped really well considering how much rain we had.

These pictures where about 10 minutes after the heavy rain stopped, Already got my Jessie running. The back platform at Chyknell had the rails just under the water in places but after 20 minutes it was down enough to run on. I was happy enough with that after the amount of rain that fell.

Oh & I hit 38 today (sunday), My wife got me an accy IOM 4 wheel coach & my mum bought me 5 Binnie FR slate wagons. Started on the FR slate wagons tonight & also tried the ION coach with my ex LGB ones, seem to work ok together & fit in quite well.

Happy Birthday Shane! :occasion4: :occasion5: Nice pressies you gots yerself there! And I bet that Seven conked out on that crossing, and the driver will have been well and truely soaked leaving his sunroof open.

Seems Cornwall is escaping that weather for now, but I am sure it won't be for long!

Many Happy Returns Shane! :occasion7: :occasion6: :occasion9:

Yet another nice set of photo's - they've made me miss the old W&L while I'm down here in Dorset
That must have been some downpour, how's the "Rowlands Mix" doing?

That's the first time I've seen an IOM lined up with an LGB coach and I've got to agree, that they work well together :D

Many Happy Returns! The DVLR has escaped flood damage but instead has suffered from severe cat damage! I was surprised, my roland's mix has survived all the heavy rain and is still intact and very strong!

More rolling stock updates....

Finished my Bday pressie FR slate wagons, just need to weather & make a better slate load for them now. They run well though & have had no issues with them yet...

Image

Also ran my IOM coach with the ex LGB ones & they seem to work well as a rake. Diesel power (No8) as it kept raining on & off...

Image

Then No8 slipped on greasy rail & ripped out a crank pin!! One thing after another with this loco. Think the gearbox survived this time...

Image

Retired to the shed as it started hammering it down so decided to finish off my ex L&B bogie brake. It was in SR brown, resprayed it the other day into CVLR grey. Added lettering/numbers...

Image

Then attacked it with age & wear & tear.... ;)

Almost finished that now.

Lovely weathering! I filled one of my slate waggons with real slates which I split down from blocks of slate then sized them all. It took about 4 hours with the help of Lewis but it was worth it!

I've got to admit that the L&B brake was my least favourite of your rolling stock (dunno why, it just was), but that's all changed now!
Fantastic job on the repaint and weathering - it looks stunning :!:

I think I may go the same way Zach, make them a good weight with real slate I'm guessing. I have yet to purchase a few more of them to make a longer train.

Funny enough Greg I thought the same. I wanted one in grey to start with but the SR brown one came up secondhand at a good price. It always looked funny I thought but it took me a while to decide to paint it. I'm happy with how it's come out, more detail seems to show in grey (with dirt), makes the vehicle have more presence in my mind.

Try chuffed 2 bits too...http://www.chuffed2bits.com/page9.html
I want to build up a rake for my Mamod but its the molding lines on the binnie kits that put me off.

DVT Dewller, I run the Binnie and cooper craft wagons with my mamods and was initialy put off by the molding marks but when painted and running they look less offensive and seem to survive the inevitable accidents very well.

Just bought a rake of 9 slate wagons, a mixture of binnie FR and coopercraft FR. The seem to run nice and freely but as I am planning a long rake as a gravity train I am going tpo need to fill them. Thinking about real slate, which was alot of fun to make, looks realistic but would take a long time or making my own moulds which won't take as long but also not look as good.

well you could always use my slates to fit into your slate waggon then make a casting of that bundle of slates and then make more and more...
Then at least the master was real slate...

havent looked at this thread for a little while and ive realised ive missed tonnes!!! :(

the weathering youve done on the L+B bogie Van and the others is excellent! i hope your keeping the IoM coach in pristine condition :D

i like the way you have adapted the couplings for the binnie slate wagons as they are really poor for such a good wagon. i reckon you should make the loads out of real slate, it may take time, but it will be more of an achievement and will look really good when done.

Might take you up on that. I would be tempted to cut real slate for all the wagons but I don't know how to get slate of a good enough quality that has been kept wet.

Work continue's.

Almost finished my first home made kit point. This will hopefully fit into a gentle curve on Chyknell siding enabling another road to be added.

Plus finally the CVLR's steam engines have a place to take on water (Not actually as it's just for show).

I built the base up about 2 months ago, just never got around to building the tank until today. The tank is actually just a Baby milk powder can heated up with a gas torch to burn the printed finish off it & then lightly sprayed in the hope that it may well rust in time.
