Maenporth Incline AKA "Death Hill" eradicated!

Post by mhlr » Thu Aug 05, 2010 10:49 pm

The days of near heart attacks when £1000 steam locos come careering down Maenporth Incline are long gone! A new section, with a much more mundane gradient has replaced it!

Image

I was talking to Si King after realising I had to do something about my gradient before my open day on Sunday earlier this week, and he suggested I do something like this.

So that's what I did...

A bit wobbly, but it's narrow gauge!!

Test train!

Successful!

Pub now sat on slabs.

I like that veiw!

Still a little more to do, I may end up putting some sort of sides on the raised wooden sort of section, perhaps arches like a viaduct.

So, we'll see how it all goes on Sunday!

Much better now, and looks like you've got some new photo and video oppotunities as well
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Excellent :D

PS I agree with you about the view too.

Nooooo! You've ruined the best bit of your railway! We won't be able to have Rene screaming as he careers out of control down the hill...
But Seriously, a fantastic solution! Bravo.

Fantastic, looks really good with the flyover. I always thought that hill was a bit OTT & knarly!

:D
Tommy Dodd may have an ARS key but I have a TASS button & a Rope Ladder, just like pirates, except the TASS button bit.

Well I didn't... I bought some off a guy who had bought an old granite quarry locally, for a tenner (that was about 1/2 a ton there).
