Exhaust Regulator

Post by DolwyddelanLightRail » Tue Jul 06, 2010 11:39 am

I've had a little look at some of the really old topics on here, and i've seen a few topics mention about how to make an exhaust regulator, but i can't actually find a topic anywhere about it! :?

I was wondering how do you actually make these and how easy they are to make for mamods, or even better, an Edrig, if you can make one for an Edrig, does it improve the chuff on it, but still manage to keep oil from splurting all over the loco?

Can't see what benefit it would be on an Edrig. It wont improve the chuff either, unless you manage to get the orifice (teehee) just the right size and shape.

I doubt an exhuast regulator would have much effect on an edrig but yes, it would stop oil spurting all over the loco. I can't see any reason why one couldn't be fitted to a mamod if the exhaust pipe was moved to the center, directly under the chimney so the handle poked out the top. If you like I can try and get a picture of the one fitted to my peckett.

If it's not too much hassle then that would be greatly appriciated! :D

The reason why i'm thinking of adding one to Phoenix is that a while back i got fed up of having to clean a thick layer of oil after every run, so i modded it by cutting the top off and crimping it, and making a organ shaped hole thing a lot lower down. The mistake in this is that i made the hole ever so slightly too big and it's now as silent as a dead night! but it did stop the oil going everywhere!

The idear of exhaust regulator is to stop engines runing away on gradients.
It sound like "Phoenix" is over oiling.
Happy steaming.

You'd be better fitting a chuff pipe to your Edrig to stop oil spewing out the top - works on mine, sounds better too :P
