The DVLR christmas vid!

Post by Dr. Bond of the DVLR » Fri Dec 25, 2009 8:56 pm

A new format which I am experimenting with, live action and simple animation which I may improve or leave in its simplistic form.
Please sugest any improvemnets you may have, I was missing a few shots and the snow melted so I coun't take any re runs. A simple story line narrated by me.
Enjoy! Merry Christmas

I have tried to do an Oliver Postgate voice!

Wow, it's like a bed time story. My comments are as per the video.

Good editing Zach, nicely done. I like the shots of the telephone etc.

yup lots of priming, and snow ploughing in the freezing cold with a manual loco with cold cylinders, a fimo figure that keeps falling out and a snow lpough that does not like being on the rails and filming all this is not easy!!!

Do we have anyother creative comments on how I can improve the format of the video for next time?

"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

I am sorry George- who on earth is MT?
I might make the animated scenes at a far higher frame rate (about 15 frames per second) which would take me an awful lot longer to do but would look like real movements. I am experimenting with plastercine models in a camberwickgreen style sort of thing for animating with, with look a like fimo people for the live action.

What a delightful video!

I liked the "Oliver Postgate" voice and the blend of live action and gentle animation worked well, but you'll have to watch the focus a little more in the animated sections. Possibly a little more light (or checking each shot on the computer before moving on)?

yes indeed, I made this vid in two days so it is all a little rushed. I usully do the animation bit and get someone else to work the camera. I have a new camera now so the next should be much better.
The animation may be improved or I might leave it in its soothingly simplistic form.
Thanks for the encouraging comments I plan to make more like it...

The bit with the 'phone was very evocative of Trumpton, Chigley etc. right down to the voice and the pause before answering it. Top marks all round!
