New garden railway files on Thingiverse

Post by Paul_in_Ricky » Fri Apr 10, 2026 1:14 pm

People might be interested in a tranche of 16mm scale STL railway files just uploaded to Thingiverse by Steve Strickson.
https://www.thingiverse.com/_steve_/designs

He announced the upload on the '3D printing for garden railway scales' group on Facebook;
"I have uploaded a load of new locos. Some of these I am aware have been copied commercially but I can show the files were made by me months in advance to theirs. I was stupid enough to let some of my models get into the hands of a commercial company who promised not to copy them!
I am giving up this hobby so I thought I would let others have the use of the files to print locos for themselves. "

Pretty poor of businesses stealing other people's designs :evil:

Thanks for the heads up Paul.
I'm staggered by his comment about "giving up this hobby", though. That is such a shame.

Very generous, Steve. Sorry to hear you were ripped off and that you are leaving the hobby.

Steve - if you are reading this thread - I'm sorry you're leaving the hobby. Not only was your milk churn one of the first designs I printed on my first printer, but your threads here have been a great inspiration to me. Thank you.

Thank you too for your generosity in sharing your drawings. (I'm excited to see the Solva loco - probably my most local functioning narrow gauge loco!)

Sad news of Steve leaving the hobby, his presence here has certainly been missed. That milk churn was also one of my first printed models and I've spotted it on other model railways online. These are some interesting models which I'll have to save for when my hot end issues are fixed. Steve, thank you for all of your contributions here, and I wish you all the best in whatever's next for you. :salute:
