I just happen to have seen an almost identical photo about 6 months ago. Someone else was surprised to see it there

That's easy - Ravenglass. It's the bogie that was under the Heywood coach reconstruction in the old Museum.tebee wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 12:49 pm OK where was I when I took this ? Bonus points if you tell me what it is .

I'll give you a hint: It's in Australia, but it's not Woodford. Our workshop isn't nearly this nice

Re: where am I?
Surprising indeed - especially how much narrow gauge stock there was there, given I hadn't even heard of it until we visited it! A fair few items (mostly wagons) are preserved within the caves and on display, but this and the remnants of three other locos are outside rotting in the hedge (plus another in better cosmetic condition in the playground)... and they don't present much information about the rail system there, which seems a bit of a missed opportunity.tebee wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 12:42 pm I just happen to have seen an almost identical photo about 6 months ago. I've never been that far north, but the red loco is the giveaway. You've been visiting the town of rum and polar bears.....Old Man Aaron wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 10:14 pm I'll give you a hint: It's in Australia, but it's not Woodford. Our workshop isn't nearly this nice![]()
A mechanical workshop that neat and tidy is a rare thing to see.

Paid a visit to ACSR in Bundaberg, during my Model A trip North, last September. I really should write that one up in the off-topic section..
On that last point Graeme, you are infuriatingly right.

I had never heard of it either but just Googled for visitor centres roughly in your area. This one is in Flintshire.

My photo is definitely railway related.
Does this help?

Re: where am I?
Absolutely - spot on!!
A couple of mates and I stayed on the campsite at Wetton Mill for a couple of nights and did a fair bit of walking in the Manifold Valley and Dove Dale.

PS Got absolutely drenched on the Thursday - one of my mates insisted that ironically, the only thing which was dry was his urinary incontinence pad (post prostate surgery)

I’m building the Bole Lasercraft kit of the station currently and recognised it from that - testament to the accuracy of the kit I guess!ge_rik wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 3:18 pmAbsolutely - spot on!!

Re: where am I?
The station building (and the engine shed) certainly provide inspiration for great models. In the station building is a very fine 4mm scale model of Hulme End and Butterton Stations. Well worth a visit if anyone is every in that area.Durley wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 3:26 pm I’m building the Bole Lasercraft kit of the station currently and recognised it from that - testament to the accuracy of the kit I guess!
