Wallingford Industrial Rail Ltd. 15 January 2024 - More steaming at PHH

After a week in the workshop putting together the start of the Points control panel video, it was time for some steam trains in the garden on a cold morning/afternoon.

Billy and Caleb raised steam quickly, even though it was chilly, once the gas was persuaded to flow and stay lit.

Billy proved to be having a lot of trouble negotiating the siding points in both directions. More work for the PWD and also the engine works. Billy had a new driving wheel recently when the wheel detached from the hub - I think as the result of too much heat when the gas ignited on the running plate (much to the excitement of Grandson 2 - Look Grandpa - flames on the outside!  ). Perhaps the back-to-back is not quite correct.

Also the LGB R1 points may need some additional thickness on the guide rail.

An interesting part of the session was finding the points were literally frozen - however it was not the rails that froze but rather the grease in the point motors. So I think it will be a case of taking them apart, cleaning out the lithium grease and reassembling them dry.
