Very nice indeed - a freelance design (I think?) that looks utterly believable. Lovely details too...

Agree with all. That is a very nice wagon Peter. The boards look so real, very nicely done.

A splash of paint makes all the difference.

Red primer to match the base colour of the L&B crane...

And a grey primer to the woodwork for top coat and dry brushing for grain effect...

After some weathering and dry brushing....

And a little wood grain effect....

All I need now are some accessories, a few timbers for packing underneath loads and a length of chain.
Coming soon!

Superb, Peter.
The timber finish is especially nice, but perhaps a few oil stains wouldn't go amiss? Just to add to the overall weathered look.

Looks great, Peter. You must have to put in 8 hour shifts per day to turn your models round so quickly.

It is, isn't it?!

I really like this little wagon, very much looking forward to seeing it with the crane.

Thanks to you all for your kind and generous comments, I really do appreciate your feedback.
Meanwhile, I have managed to win a huge collection of 16mm model accessories on that well known auction site we all know and love! There should be enough to outlast me so I'm hoping to have a busy time during the winter months.
This is the box as it arrived, very carefully packed and in a substantial outer cardboard carton too....

Inside is a whole model shops' worth of 16mm wheels, axle-guards, buffers, motors and gearboxes, radiators, brass bearings, bogies, handbrake stands, etc.etc. even more than I expected from the description....

I'm 'over the moon' with this purchase so I need to do some thinking about what to do with it all... You know how difficult it is for me to come up with a new idea!!!

I was keeping an eye on that offering, but decided it would probably just gather dust. - I am glad you have won it Peter..

I am sure that wagon has gone several shades of abuse darker, than the earlier pictures?

It got me to mentally adding up how many cranes I have :

At least three, which are as the manufacturer intended..
Then a couple of 'whimsies'..
Then I have (at least three) card / wood / plastic kits, and scariest of all, a rather heavy bag of white-metal castings. - The thought of which, fills me with trepidation!

I really ought to make some time for doing something with all this 'stuff'. Youngest daughter, has threatened to skip the lot, once I go to the great garden railway in the sky..

Philip's suggestion to make the timber darker hit the target with me and the wagon has undergone some transformation since the last picture was taken. I'm much happier with is appearance now and am always happy to receive suggestions.
What is it about cranes? I have always had an interest in them and also have a few I made earlier! Please share yours with us.

My colleagues (all of similar age) frequently ask what will happen to our 'stuff' when the time comes? So far I have no answer as my own sons show little enthusiasm and no individual would share my personal interests. Having spent most of my career working in a large museum, that option is a definite NO !!!
I just keep putting it off in the knowledge that it will be someone else's problem and I will know nothing about it.
Until then I have plenty of material to continue adding to their problem.

I've decided to give my wife and daughter details of this forum and told them that if I unexpectedly peg it to post a message asking for volunteers to dispose of my stuff. However, if I go into slow decline, then I've worked out how I can modify the railway to gradually reduce its size and sell off stock to end up with a small core - just sufficient to run an occasional train.

That sounds like a good plan Rik, the Forum is certainly the place to attract the audience we would need. In my case a slow decline in ability to reach my railway ( a fair distance away, and all uphill ) means I would probably dispose of the track and structures first whilst continuing to make more models for as long as possible. Running trains has never been a strong point for me, I just like to create the locos and rolling stock.
