My locos

Hi everyone, I've been meaning to post photos of my mainly 3d printed locomotives for a while so here goes.
Let me make it quite clear that they are not fine scale by any means but a representation of what I want them to be. The 4F is not completely printed as the boiler barrel is a piece of aluminium scaffold pole skimmed to represent boiler banding and the tender sides are 1.5 mm ply. The wheels are printed and fitted with metal tyres.
The 57xx is totally printed with again metal tyres
The articulated loco is loosely based on the K1. It started life as a totally different model that was partly built by a club member which I inherited when he passed on. It started with the running boards and cab so I decided to try and build something from it and ended up with the K1.
They are all controlled by the old Peter Spoerer gear which is now Fosworks.
I also have a few wagons that were printed and some scratch built in other materials.
If it wasn't for 3d printing I would never have gotten into gauge 1 as to buy what I have would have cost me a fortune.
I hope this is of interest to some of you.

They all look fantastic, great to see printing being used to open up another one of the specialist scales.

I'd be interested to learn more about how you made your wheels, I've often wondered if I could achieve something similar. Did you turn the tyres yourself? Are they just glued onto the wheels, or is there some method of locating them in place?

These are some wonderful looking engines and rolling stock Ron. You may not consider them 'finescale', but they easily pass the 'six foot test' . It would be great to see some running.

Wonderful! The scaling looks fine enough for me as does the quality of finish. As you say, a cost effective way of getting into G1

Hi again,
these photos are of my Sentinel shunter which is scratch built from mainly ply with printed radiators and buffer stocks and the rest of my wagons. They are all printed except the bolsters which are built of ply with printed bogies, wheels and buffer stocks.
I don't know if I can include video on here as when I tried I got an error message. Can anyone help with this as I am reluctant to post on youtube.

Ron, Sorry, it's not possible to post video's direct to the Forum, it uses too much bandwith. Everyone else posts to Youtube or another picture host.

I'm not a wild enthusiast of diesel locos, but ........... What a beauty! Wow! She looks immaculate.

That Class 27 looks good.

My 5" gauge V200 (nicknamed Taigatrommel) also has several 3d printed parts.

Headlamp housings, brake valves,...



Length over buffers is 1.65m.
Six axle-hung motors and a 24V 300Amp controller give her enough power to pull anything.

I must apologize as I should have said at the outset that my 27 was built from a kit a few years ago when I had a bit of spare cash, not printed. It is a Bexhill models one and I am sorry to say the owner Robin Neighbour has passed away after a fight with cancer. He actually delivered the kit personally and stayed and had a cuppa with us. He was a lovely chap. It also looks as though the site has been taken down too.

No! Of course not!!

You need to go directly to 71/4" gauge..
