David.
Quite!! Are the wheels printed as well?

Rik
Thank you for everyone's very kind words, they really are appreciated.

Yes the wheels are printed Rik. Things not printed are, 4mm axles, gears, motor, cross slide bars, fake piston rod, brass insert for piston rod, nuts and bolts, all bushes. It has bushes in every moving part.

I am glad people are liking it so far

Started to add the first layers of paint and think it's starting to look like it is something rather than just a lump of 3D printed plastic, lol.

Progress has been exceptionally slow on this due to my father in law passing away, arranging the funeral, having to clear a house for the mother in law, as well as the garden and garage, that tied with laying 3.2 tonnes of concrete in my own garden and rearranging all the sheds as one needs replacing somewhat urgently. Anyway I digress.

Here it is with a couple of coats of paint, no sandpots, windows or anything yet, but it is very very slowly getting there.

I would point out that it will not be lined as I have no idea how to do it despite owning, but never using a lining pen for the last 10 years, lol.

Blimey, Steve. Sounds like you've got an awful lot on your plate!! Please pass on my condolences to your wife and mum in law.

The loco is coming along nicely. In effect, you're building two locos at once, so given everything else, your progress is lvery impressive, especially when you consider this is a scratchbuild.

It's gonna look great when it's done.

A simple way to add lining is to use self adhesive lining tape, which is a continuous strip of coloured plastic, available in various widths on the same backing sheet and in a wide range of colours......

Quite honestly, that's not even the half it, but thank you for your kind wishes.

To say I have been busy over the last month just doesn't even come close, I have not printed anything in 2 weeks, what is this world coming to, lol :D

Boiler bands are self adhesive tape (again!) This time left over from my career days as a picture framer where it was used to enhance mounts.
Try ebay.... picture framing accessories (?) or craft shops.

Yes, I think I can actually tell what it is now!!  And a lovely job you are making of it.
You really must do something about lining though. It would be a shame not to after all the hard work, and the lining somehow makes it come alive instead of being just flat.

That is just a fantastic build Steve, one that anyone would be proud to own.

Sorry to hear of your father-in-laws passing, you have my condolences in this sad time for your family. :(

Thank you very much, I will be searching shortly for the brass looking ones

Do you know, I have just been looking at Peter's and it's amazing what a difference that lining makes. I might bite the bullet and give it a go at some point. just when I thought the end was in sight too, lol :D

All the wiring, batteries, charge point, switch etc is all in place and the chassis has run around the track, so it's just a case of "pretty bits" now. :D

I managed a bit of modelling time today between clearing the garden and sorting out a run to the tip.

So no lining yet, still not sure on my skill level there. The rest of the loco is almost there, a few touch up bits to do, sand pot tops and the windows.

I am quite happy with this so far.

It’s looking really tidy! I wonder how easy the lining tape Peter mentioned would be to remove if you’re not happy with the end result?

The lining tape is easy to remove, or alter, without leaving marks on the paintwork. It is necessary to give a coat of lacquer to keep it firmly in place, so make sure you are happy first!

Very nice indeed. Enjoyable discussion on how some of it has been achieved too.

I’ve droned on about this before (apologies) but playing with plasticard and conventional materials, to attempt this sort of thing, can just look like barking up the wrong tree now. Gosh.

That is shaping up to be a really nice loco Steve. Lining with Trimline tape will be a good start to providing the 'finishing touches'. Like you, I've been in possession of a lining pen for many years, and have yet to use it in 'anger'. Not possessing a 3d printer, I was hoping to treat myself to a PDF Fairlie's Double - hopefully someone will be able to continue the business.
