Thanks The Window actually has Maskol on it, although I did miss a bit on the back so will have to clean that off. I’ve been recommended UPVC cleaner to do it, luckily there is a bottle of that in the shed!

Slow progress due to being in work, but over the last few days I’ve fitted Lamp Irons and started the detail painting.



White stripes (nerve wracking!) and number plates completed.....



Next is a coat of varnish.... need to do a test piece first though.

In other news, now that painting is complete on the 2095, I’ve made a start on giving another of the lines heavily used diesels a bit of a make over.

Whilst using it last year I’d noticed my Baguley Drewry (which until the arrival of the 2095 was the line’s primary diesel) was starting to look a bit tired.

So, into the paint shops it has come. The plan is to remove the weird blocks between the safety chains and the coupler (done) and repaint the buffer beam in a better shade of red. The red side frames will be repainted black, but the con-rods will be left red.

The loco body has been given a good clean, and will receive wasp stripes at both ends. I made a start on these this morning by giving both ends a couple of coats of warning panel yellow.




I’m also planning on fitting extra details such as lamp irons, brandbright vacuum bags and maybe some air tanks on the sole bar. The loco will be named ‘Eilean Donan’ when complete.

That will be another triumphant makeover I'm sure..... I love the idea of fitting Brandbright vacuum bags..... not what you meant to say I know, but the image is wonderful. With that name it must be a 'castle class' loco.

‘Bags’ are actually what they’re known as on the Ff&WHR. Admittedly that might be a typical Ffestiniogism

More progress, this time with the loco’s chassis, this afternoon. Not the best paint job (the satin black is a little blotchy in places, a common problem I seem to have) but it’s fine from normal viewing distances. The colour scheme is a vast improvement on the original brandbright one. The original red is far too orangey IMO.

The buffer beams look much better in that shade of red.

The ones on my 'Bag' are that orange colour you had so need to sort that once I am happy with the way it runs, sounds and eventually smokes!

Looks good to me too, and very interested in seeing the painted locomotive. Vac bags are also what they're known as on the East Lancashire Railway. Draincocks are also known as the taps and some refer to the injectors as pumps!

Quite a bit of progress this afternoon...







I’m well chuffed with how it’s turned out. Again, it’s not perfect, but from normal viewing distance it looks pretty good IMO!

Just need to touch a bit of the yellow up and reattach the rear coupler and handrails.

*Note to self, never, ever, ever remove a pair of Accucraft choppers again, what a faff!
