Like the look of that, got a sort of 'useful around the workshop' appearance about it.

Well this took a long time coming but actually cut some artificial slate for the roof. The centre pier may need strengthening but if I continue to work at this speed then that should be sorted by Christmas....

May have been a long time coming, but well worth the wait by the looks of it.

That does look rather good, well thought out and executed!

Looks good, especially the wood finish.

I am loving this Derek, show’s that you don’t need to make a model in 4 days. Where did you find the artificial slate from please.

Know what you mean with…., somewhere mate, can’t find a lot now with moving, I have lost a little jig I made up for cutting the coffee stirrer’s lol…and all sorts of things, this heatwave :sunny: :sunny: at the moment isn’t helping either…. :cussing:

The artificial slates are composite type material from Jewsons. I cut them with a tile cutter (powered) And have used small strips to add weight to wagons under the chassis.
Builders merchants may sell invidually but I bought a pack of 25 and can only see 3 whole ones left in the shed.... no idea I had used that many...there must be more somewhere, probably with the Modelearth oil drum set I bought :D :D

Absolutely! I'm full of admiration for those that do, but equally inspired by those who manage to maintain momentum for a project over a long period - I tend to snatch my modelling time from the rest of the day in hour long chunks and often only manage two or three of those a week, so any project I start tends to take a long time to complete...

It's already a lovely looking model, the wood looks great, looking forward to seeing more...

All the best,

Andrew.

An afternoon trying to build a match truck for the crane backfired when I found coupling heights were too far out. Never mind, tipper 29 has joined the fleet but needs a weathered chassis.

Wasn't convinced that trying to stick corrugated plastic to the roof would have been successful in the heat. The easy side was laid in the cool this evening hence the dark photo. Gut feeling tells me some nail art rivets along the roof would add some interest.

The joy of 7/8ths, larger buildings!

Love it, very convincing...

Always!

Probably more to scale for 7/8ths too... Despite not having done a huge amount of modelling of late I'm about to start my second box of nail art gems - I can't have used over 1,000 already, can I?!

The building's really looking very good indeed... Where do you get your corrugated iron from - and do you think it would do in 16mm? I'm starting to plan a small station building based on the (old) WHR one at Nantmor...

Cheers,

Andrew.

I agree, it looks good.

I like the old Nantmor station. I had a similar one by Wills on a OO gauge layout. A similar one may appear on my railway when it gets built. Are there any drawings for it or plans?

Well, there's this one, which I drew at lunchtime yesterday!

Just a doodle really, to see whether it would look OK using Jackson Miniatures windows, which aren't as tall as the originals. I reckon it'll do. Inspired by this thread I plan to construct the body of the building in foamboard and then clad it in corrugated plastic sheet...

I did come across some small drawings of the modern shelter at Pont Croesor (based on the original at Ynysfor) in the WHR heritage Group journal - https://www.welshhighlandheritage.co.uk ... -No-48.pdf. A little smaller than Nantmor, but it might suit your needs?

Apologies for thread hi-jack by the way...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Nail art rivets seem to disappear at an alarming rate! The corrugated I have used is 1/12 scale dolls house sheets from eBay (Melody Jane). I guess they are marginally overscale for me and probably so for 16mm. That said I wouldn't say there is much difference between these sheets and baked bean cans. I could stick a sliver in the post if you want to try before you buy. I struggled to find good corrugated in 16mm I must admit.

PS 4D model supplies do sheets of 4mm and 6mm styrene sheet corrugated £12 a sheet though.

Thank you, that's a very kind offer. I had a look at the Melody Jane website though, and the image shows it with a 10 pence piece, and i think it will be a little too large. I think I'll probably go with Tenmille asbestos sheet - that's intended for Gauge One and I think scales about right for 16mm corrugated iron, even if it is a little pricier than I'd like. I did try making my own with a crafting "crimper" but didn't have much luck there - it's such a signature feature of the old WHR that I'd like to get it right...

Thanks again,

Andrew.

Probably a wise decision Andrew , it is quite chunky even in 7/8th. I've managed to clad the whole roof, bit of a cock up with my overlaps on the side extension but would you know if I hadn't confessed? In fact cock ups are a bit of a feature on my line :D
