Lynton and barnstaple bogie goods van

Post by ikcdab » Thu Mar 16, 2017 6:13 pm

Hi all
I am starting on a model of the L&b bogie goods vans. These are the ones supplied in 1927 by the southern railway. Not the brakes, but the plain goods vans.

I am struggling to find a decent drawing. All I really need are the overall dimensions as I can then create a drawing myself.

Can anyone give me the overall dimensions or point me at a legible drawing?

Thanks.

The L&B books in my collection seem to just reprint Tustin's drawings which don't include the Howard built vans. There was a book of L&BR drawings published fairly recently, but it was too pricey here in Oz, as I don't model the L&B.

My copy of the Oakwood Press 7th edition of Catchpole's L&B book quotes the following dimensions in a table, but has no drawing of the Howard vans.

length - 26' 5 1/2"
width - 6' 10 3/4"
height - 8' 6 1/2"

It doesn't say if the quoted length is over headstocks, or over coupler pull lines. Presumably headstocks, as the table is labelled 'body dimensions'. It also doesn't say if the dimensions are as built, or as rebuilt.
