Locomotive replica's; what would you like to see?

Post by JMORG » Tue Jul 19, 2016 2:03 pm

Just thought I'd pose "the question"!
Any ideas?

There have been so many locomotive designs throughout the history of railways, some as experiments, others for efficiency or superiority. However, my personal preference would be one to show ingenuity, humour, practicality and entertainment. It also reached out to the masses when the country was in need of unity and to promote the success of British Engineering...... my choice would be.... 'Neptune'

Designed by Rowland Emett for the 'Festival of Britain', 1951, to give the country a boost following years or wartime austerity, this locomotive ran on 15 inch gauge track so would be easily transportable between various locations today. Built with IC powered tender it could be easily be reproduced today and give untold pleasure.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

I second the Leek and Manifold, although where would it run? I'd also love to see a Ceylon Government H1 Garratt...
2' gauge? Definitely an original VOR tank! The VOR have recently discovered a set of frames for one!
Unrelated; why hasn't anyone tried to get a Darjeeling C class???

You beat me too it with that idea. I was going to say a full-size Mamod. Pot boiler, meths-fired, etc...

More realistically, the Bagnall 2-4-0T that worked at the Vale of Rhiedol.

Blyth from the Southwold.
10000 or 10001 ex LMS main line express locos. (Incidentally my Godfather started a group to preserve 10001 after she was withdrawn, once BR got wind of it she was cut up very quickly)

Pippindoo, I'm honestly surprised no one has made a full size replica/mock up of a Lady Anne!

There's a group looking to do just that. We've the drawings, the patterns for wheels and a boiler design (100psi so we can use injectors).

Oh, and it would be to the original design, not the "what if" produced by the LMS in 1929......

All we need now is some ££££££££££££££ and a base to work from!

I'll agree on that :D Had a purposeful industrial look, while maintaining the charm of a narrow gauge loco :)
