any other gauge one chaps here?

Post by bessytractor » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:52 am

Just wondered if there were any other gauge one modellers here? In my absence from this forum I've been selling my 16mm stuff and building lots of gauge one stuff. Nothing against 16mm (I kept my beloved mamod and ruby) but standard gauge is more my thing.

Yes indeed, Bessy. What are you building?

If you like this kind of web Forum, try my Standard Gauge one:
http://g1rf.myfastforum.org/
which is modelled on this one - same software (same bugs) and same image handling.

If you fancy the conversational style of an email group (instead or as well), I can offer you:
https://uk.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/g1-rlys/info

Both have free membership, and you don't have to belong to any other organisation first to join.

All I ask is that (unlike here) you declare your Name (even if you use a Handle as Username) and that you include in your application a few words that show you are an enthusiast, not a spammer.

cheers David

I'm close to completing a Barrett J38 kit (with a LMS 2P to follow). A MEL WD 2-10-0 is coming on well too.

Excellent.

Here's a 2P in action "in the brass".

As YouTube have broken their Embed process, this may just come out as a Link rather than the video itself.

Excellent stuff! I'm looking forward to putting the 2P together. I personally paint them as I go.

which works well with a Screwdriver kit such as a pre-painted Aster, but I'm not so sure about a Barrett.

I suppose you could paint each part after Fitting it.

I think you are wise if it works, because personally I hate stripping down an oily locomotive to paint it.

It works fine you just need to really carefully read the instructions first and divide the loco into sub assemblies. You can then paint the bits before final assembly. I airbrush with Pheonix Precision baked in the oven at 100 degrees for an hour. Yes you run the risk of damage if it all goes wrong and you have to dismantle it again but its preferable to trying to degrease a filthy loco in my mind.

Thanks, Bessie.

Is that 100F or 100C please?   (Bet it's not 100K !)

Celcius, I get the oven (electric baby belling) up to temperature as I paint, then put the item in and turn it off. I then leave it for an hour to cool.

I'm a Gauge 1 man - 45 mm gauge :) With loco's from 1/32 to 1/12 scale. I like to run slow, so I'm more of a narrow gauge man. When my Gauge 1 loco started to really take off I realised how much I like to run slow.

Best wishes,
Dave
