Ford(ish) Railmotor now with MP3 sound

Post by ge_rik » Fri Nov 06, 2015 7:18 pm

Just finished installing the guts from an MP3 player into my Ford-inspired railmotor.

Changing tracks on the SD card is triggered by the direction switch on my Deltang Tx22 transmitter. In reality there is a one second pause between each track but I've edited that out on the video. I am exploring ways to overcome that, though (next stage).

Apologies for the quality of the video. It was a bit of a rush-job in between showers and before having to go out. Also the roof of the bus is held on with BluTak which is a bit too obvious - but I want to be able to get back inside to make a few more modifications.

Will blog how I did it shortly.

Rik

Yep - edited that into the sound file using Audacity. Will blog how I did it.

Ok, firstly I'm very impressed, that is an amazing solution for the coat.
Regarding the pause, have you tried using wav files instead of mp3. As wav needs no decompression the file change may be quicker.

Have you investigated something like this....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/U-disk-audio-pl ... 0629013078

They are super cheap, and (i have read...!) Can be configured that each pin triggers a different track. I did consider fitting two into a model. One for background engine sound and one for horns, gear change etc.
Put that light out!

Thanks for that - looks interesting. Might well look into that for my next investigation into sound.

Not sure if the MP3 player will play wav files - I assume it will only play MP3 files, but must admit I've not put it to the test.

Wow! I love the railcar and the sound effects add in a whole new dimension. This is something I'm going to have to investigate further. :D
