I have often wondered how these guides are selected? My guide turned up today. I suppose its alright and I flicked through it but as I am not interested in North Wales narrow gauge I don't suppose it will get much use. Just like SMT the photo's are in part un-natural...totally clean engines and un-blemished wagons...a good picture on page 60 at the top shows the reality of wear and tear in real life...

Mine arrived today too.

I'd like to echo Peters comments. Whilst Welsh narrow gauge is not my primary interest, and the FR is probably well down that list, I do find the research interesting and well worth the read, it will be invaluable for research in the future.

To write one of these requires extensive knowledge and substantiated facts. I have neither the time nor the ability to undertake this, I only wish I had!

I have boundless respect for those who have the time and interest to undertake the enormous research needed to produce such works. I just hope that they gain satisfaction from knowing how well their efforts are appreciated and enjoyed.

Talking about "freebies" in general, there are plans afoot for a brass etch, rather like the one we produced in 2008. (see picture)

Image

The intention is that it will have "useful things" (a scale rule, back-to-back gauge(es), coupling height gauge) plus "last vehicle" signs, a couple of wagon "built" plates and a couple of 40th anniversary headboards (when we've got a logo) plus whtever else we can cram in.

Only trouble is, we haven't got anybody who could produce a master in the appropriate software..............

Can you help?

Now that IS useful, especially the stencil. One with the alphabet in upper case lettering and numbers would be very well received too I'm sure!

Unfortunately I wasn't a member when this was produced so missed out, are there any still available to purchase?
It seems such a useful general item to have could it be issued again?

Thoroughly enjoyed my copy of the modellers guide. Brewed a big mug of tea and settled into the bath to peruse it for an hour or so. Difficult to concentrate on the last few pages with the current wife hammering on the door desperate for the khazi........

Suggestion that she might like to use the compost heap did not go down that well.
If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer!

Just a guess - Does it read " Is it forbidden..."? Or is that just my eyesight?

Ffestiniog guide really good by the way!
