Whilst in Stratford upon Avon this morning, we wandered into The Works.
They have a selection of Royal Mail postboxes at a stated scale of 1:19. There were three types available The old hexagonal Penfold type, a standard round one and an oval one with stamp machine and "Post Office" direction arrow on top - made of pewter and all reduced to only £2-99 each.
They aren't in the current Royal Mail list and since they are remaindered in The Works, there may not be many still around, but for 3 squid, a genuine 1:19 scale model is worth a look if you have space for a letter box.

Now that´s what I call a bargain. Shame I´d have to add the cost of a plane ticket

There is a branch of The Works here in Carmarthen and I will certainly be visiting tomorrow. Thanks for the info!

Brilliant! Wish i knew about those when i was looking for a letterbox. Ended up using a pencil sharpener which was in the shape of a letterbox. Only thing i could find that was roughly the right scale.

Yep, I got one of those as well, but was never quite happy with the scale so its still sitting on the shelf.
What is the source of your lamp post, they look rather nice?

I wish i knew! I bought those back in 2012 when i first started the railway. Then when i came to create the little street on the opposite side to the station where those lamps are i couldn't remember who made them or where i got them from! Racked my brains, went back through all my emails etc, never found out. Ended up with some similar LGB ones but they are not as good. Those originals are metal, with grain of wheat bulbs already wired in.

I'm sitting here chuckling at the thought of some stock controller at The Works, wondering why they are suddenly shifting these things at a rate of knots when they've obviously previously had them on the shelves for long enough to have to reduce the price twice!!

Post Box arrived in the post this morning. I am very impressed with the quality, it never occurred to me it would be die-cast and so beautifully finished for the price. Even the packaging was good!
I have tried it on my railway against a die-cast telephone box which on its own looks ok, but next to the post box is clearly overscale.
When separated I might get away with it?

That looks fine to me Peter. There is a long Wikipedia entry on pillar boxes and towards the end is a picture showing almost exactly the same thing in real life( no campervan though!). There were so many different designs of pillar box and several different phone box designs, so a mm or two either way is neither here nor there, IMO.

It seems they had 2 listings for the Type B box. 2nd listing still lists it at
£5:99 and in stock -

My Type E's were very well packed. Just as well as the outer box had done a round in the Royal Mail 5-a-side game before delivery!

When I ordered it would only let me but two (I wanted three!) So I may have ordered the last!
They arrived today, they add a great splash of color at the stations.
Thanks to all the posters for the info
Cheers, Dave
