Regner Achensee rack railway "Georg" loco

Post by kandnwlr » Sat May 03, 2014 9:31 am

Visited the Freienbach Large Scale exhibition in Switzerland yesterday, 2nd May. and talked to the Regners about plans going forward. The Achensee-Danpf-Zahnradbahn locomotive "Georg" was there on its display, as was the Rigi No 7. According to Mrs Regner, the Achensee loco has not been steamed yet, but the first public steaming is due at a visit to the Achensee-Bahn itself, timed to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the railway, 15-17 August 2014. Could be fun to visit.

Price of the kit is Euro 2´089.- according to the leaflet. Mrs Regner hinted that there are no further major projects for this year, so the rack railway loco should be available, at least in kit form, from December onwards. No news of what might follow, as the new products are traditionally launched in the new year at the Nuremburg toy fair.

The size of the pressure gauge (Manometer in German) is kind of a Regner thing. Perhaps it´s because they can then get a decent sized logo on it. But I for one, am certainly going to replace the gauge on my Rigi No. 7 rack railway loco with one closer to the size of the equipment on the TME Quarry Hunslet engines.

I like the blackened brass finish on the cylinders and valve chest. It has a very realistic "cast" look to it, very appealing. I wonder how that is done.

Don´t know what they do, but there´s stuff called "Brass Black" or similar. You can even buy it on Amazon

Dear kandnwlr I´m following your railwayproject with great fascination  . And now when you are into klimbing locos, I wonder: When you hit the ceiling, why not drill a tunnel through it and continue with your railwaydream "upstairs" ?
Regards from up north, Michael

Well, it´s funny you should mention that but I did work out where I would come out in the garden if I continued upwards from the Portmeirion base station through the Stokesay Castle station ..... outside into the fresh air (subject to planning permission) .....

The Achensee engine is my kind of thing, do they currently or will they do the rack too?

The Achensee engine (and the Rigi No. 7) are designed to fit the LGB rack railway accessories.
