Not your normal Mamod - ebay find

A very popular starting point for Live Steam. With their low cost comes a number of problems which can be discussed here

Not my cup of tea, but an interesting build none the less.
I have not seen one done quite like this before.

Not my cup of tea either but somebody clearly had fun making it.

I would say it doesn't look like a Mamod for a good reason, namely because it isn't and most it it isn't. The meths burner could be and probably is, and the piston and cylinder might be, but if someone has gone to that much trouble, then they are probably not, but again could be. The rest, just isn't.

Great little feat of engineering by someone, but again, the finished article isn't my cup of tea either.
The buck stops here .......

An interesting design some one obviously put a lot of thought into this I,m probably guessing but it looks to me like a marine steam plant first with the drive sloping down to a prop the shaft shortened, a contrate wheel added then put into a loco frame.

Looking at the gearing I would say it would pull very well but she sure is an ugly girl she could be made a lot more pleasing to the eye with some TLC put her way :D

I do like the underdogs

The plot thickens - Seems to be the result of the article by vernon sparrow in the August 1981 issue of railway modeller, his engine 'Pim', quite a well executed example too, but not my style of loco either, however, for such an uncommon loco, I think somebody got a good deal at £99

An interesting design, could be improved in the looks department, but a lot of parts are identifiable, the boiler firebox, and cylinder (possibly piston), is all mamod MM2, the burner is the larger meth's burner for the mobiles and stationary engines, the axle cranks are bushes with brass sheet soldered to them and gears are all meccano :D I like the concept though its been over complicated and the boiler could have done with the meths burner below the footplate to bring the overall height down.

In my honest opinion, its a simple engine as planned by its designer, and very clever in its use of commercially available parts, with only the body and chassis frames and various brackets needing fabricating and assembly, a great entry in to building live steam locos :D [/i]
