The charitable Mamod loco and event

Hi guys,

I want to organise a charity 'fun run' at my local club and I have set myself the task of building something from nothing in order to complete the challenge.

Basically I want to build a loco from any old scrap parts that I can come by. The challenge is to see how long I can keep a run going and gain sponsorship for the amount of minutes to do so. Ideally the only rule I want to set myself is that the loco remains in steam and that counts as part of a run.

The cause? I want to do this for the M.S society (multiple sclerosis), as my late mother was a sufferer and I feel that I want to do something to help.

I have posted an ad in the wanted section for if anyone has any scrap parts floating around in their parts boxes that they no longer need, that I can buy or if you feel that you can, gift to my cause.

Basically anything is welcome from damaged, corroded, butchered or just utter rubbish bits. Anything that I can start a loco build with.

Ultimately I want to make this a regular annual money raising event with many participants each raising money for their own charity.

Hi again folks, I have updated the blog for the recent events. I have had my first donation towards the cause. Kevin Gregory (Narrow Minded) has kindly passed on to me some Mamod items as well as some lovely upgraded bits and pieces, thank you so much! There is another in the pipeline, I await it patiently!

The generosity of people has amazed me again. Our very own superbiker_uk has kindly donated a boiler to the cause. Many thanks Peter!

Peter advises me that the boiler needs soldering around the inserts to make it a useable pressure vessel, so I shall get on and do that in due course!

Am following this with great interest - shame I haven't any Mamod parts, lots of Roundhouse though...

Danny, maybe I could build a Millie instead? Send all the roundhouse parts you can! Lol, I jest. ;)

Don't forget to check out the blog at www.mamodcharityrun.blogspot.co.uk

Yesterday I received two parcels of goodies from Matt Nunn and my good friend Doug Roberts.

Matt was kind enough to go rummaging through his scrap pile on his layout and kindly send me the parts below for a very tiny sum (postage costs really) and Doug sent the items shown in the bottom picture.

Many thanks for your help and support guys and don't forget to have a look in your spares/parts boxes for any broken, warn out, butchered or rusty unwanted Mamod/Mss loco parts, thank you.

Really? That would be great. As you can see I have parts of cylinders, but nothing useable yet. Please let me know? :)

I'd like to thank Keith Wilson for the kind donation of a set of wheels. They do need a little work to be perfect and useable, but that is exactly what I want for this little project.

Thanks Keith!

Please have a look about for any scrap, unwanted Mamod/MSS parts that you no longer need - regardless of condition.

That's excellent, those items would help me along nicely! :D

I just need a pair of frames now and I can put the chassis together. :)
