Anthony Newley..... that's the boy! Isn't it strange how, in later years, names escape you? I hope you have many years to go before you're affected.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
I started about 2 years ago, or was it 3, or was it 4….just can’t remember Peter.

Toe late! I can remember stupid stuff like that, but not the stuff that would be useful now!Peter Butler wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 5:55 pm Anthony Newley..... that's the boy! Isn't it strange how, in later years, names escape you? I hope you have many years to go before you're affected.
Slightly back on topic. I have discovered a significant 'collapse' in the Unobtainium mine, which I suspect is rodent related. When I get back home I will inspect further.

Bunnies on the line..... at least I think this damage is rabbit related.....
There isn't a hole in the ground this time, just disturbance, so, having seen a bunny on the railway just a couple of days ago I guess one is responsible? The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

But is it a weasel or a stoat? One is weasely recognisable, but the other is stoatally different...... sorry, I'll get my hat!

I am surprised that you have coneys if there is a weasel about. Perhaps it has been listening to Leonard Cohen records and has decided to end it all?
There is a good cure for rabbits, it involves a pastry overcoat.
I was recently dragged to see the film 'Peter Rabbit' and found myself salivating throughout.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
After a short break for lessons on wildlife and cooking I thought I might return to my thread concerning construction of my garden railway...... can anyone remember that?
My Baldwin build looked complete although its running was still unsatisfactory. I had taken my grinder to the inner walls of the cylinders and re-engineering the front bogie did improve things but there were still issues with certain points (switches) and track at some locations. I thought my tracklaying was good enough to accept most locomotives but the Baldwin has proved me wrong. I had to do something to resolve the problem finally so out came the grinder again and even more material had to be removed..... Not pretty, but necessary.
Fortunately the modifications can't be seen from outside.
In addition I also put a coil spring around the pivot bolt to give more downward pressure on the bogie, this also helps to keep the wheels on track where they previously lifted off. A few circuits proved that the improvements have finally done the trick, at last!

I can always remember your Thread Peter, it’s one of the best….
Is this the bogie I thought was still a little bit close to the wheels Peter…who cares what it looks like so long has it works…..

A shame that you have had to make this mod, Peter. From my recollection, the curves on your railway are not particularly tight. It does sound as if there's a fundamental design flaw with the kit.

Sorry for not commenting earlier but that is a lovely looking loco.
I have a 16mm special, Leighton Buzzard I think, that details a Slaters Chaloner build and I've often thought that was a museum model destined for display and occasional use rather than lots of running. I'll be interested to see how you get on running it though neither of us are majorly into operations side....
