Thanks Richard :D, it's not new - it used to be down the bottom end of the garden and had become very overgrown with ivy, plus the "trees" either side of it more-or-less hid it from view so I decided to move it.
It now forms a nice scenic break hiding the garden path, and provides a logical access to the cattle pens.
It's actually a cast concrete garden "ornament" ;)

Looks like the cattle are very happy with their 'new' bridge.

Very nice, not many people go to the effort of modelling over bridges, but they do usually reward the effort put in. Of course, for fun you could try putting the cows on the track, and I can guarantee that it will be entirely prototypical....!*

*Yes, we did have a herd of cows escape onto the track at Ravenglass last week
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Very nice - I'd be tempted to add a white square on the bridge behind the signal to aid drivers sighting it as they hurtle along at, err, 15mph... OK, not very narrow gauge, but I'd still be tempted. I like it when you see the ghostly remains of those squares long after the signal has gone...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Whoo-hoo! 1,000th post on this thread :D and to celebrate, it just happens to be about the re-instatement of one of my personal favourite scenic features! ;)

When I re-modelled Codnor station,

Image

I had to remove the old crossing to clear the site. It used to look like this;

Image

and I've really missed it as a "photo location" since it was gone
So, as of today, it's back!! :occasion9:

Image

Image

No "crossing hut" this time, but of course, it's controlled from the 'box :D

You might have been asked before but: Where do you get your metal fencing from?

The fencing is off-cuts from "Harris Fencing" (the panels seen on building sites etc), Fire Guards and Pet cages - (all "recycled" from our local tip ;) )

Interesting Greg.

I assume you have made the swap as you did not like the look of the safety valve sitting above the cab front plate. On the original IP Eng combination that did not occur but Dream Steam have changed the size of the components used.

I recall getting involved in a discussion way back where someone asked if swapping the safety valve & water top up valve positions would cause problems. One thought was with the boiler under pressure some of the water injected could end up in the regulator tube or go down the sight glass tube to give a false reading.

Be interesting to hear your experiences with this altered set-up when you get your 'permission' to steam again.

Chris Cairns.

Not long now Chris, and I'll certainly let you know - BTW, you're quite right. I made the swap because I think it improves the look, but also removes the slight hassle of having to remove the dome each time I topped-up the water level (and yes - it got HOT! ;) )

Now,
Convalescing
present participle of con·va·lesce
Verb
Recover one's health and strength over a period of time after an illness or operation.

Obviously on "doctors orders", but I've managed to tackle a few projects over the last couple of days ;)
First off some scenics - I fancied one of those disused WW2 pill-boxes that used to guard strategic locations around the countryside, so rather than splash out 20 quid for one of the excellent Cain Howley cast concrete versions, I carved one out of a spare thermalite block :D
Here it is with the new low relief warehouse I've knocked up out of an off-cut of shuttering ply covered with corrugated sheet to save another 55 quid on the far superior Model Town resin cast one ;)

Image

Next, rolling stock - I've wanted a little "quarry coach" for some time, and been very tempted by the workers coach recently released by Andel, but I've also been swayed by something along the lines of Lord Penrhyn's private coach.
At the end of the day, I just wanted something small and different to add to my quarry stock so being a tight-bottom, I've resurrected an old IP Ezee passenger coach which has spent the last two years living out in the garden as a grounded coach body and raided the "bits box"!
Here's the Waingroves Quarry owners coach -

Image

complete with old Lord Punrhyme and his "secretary/nurse/assistant" 8)

Image

My own "secretary/nurse/assistant" tells me that I'm not allowed to attend the Llanfair gathering this weekend
but if I'm a good boy, I can have a steam up at home! :D

Good to see you up and about Greg. I guess you'll have to convert one of your buildings into a tanning salon?

hmmm call it "sun your buns"? 8)

Feeling much better ta ;)
So much so that I was "allowed out" again today, so I can show you where Lord Punrhyme's coach normally lives........

At the back of Waingroves Quarry shed! :D

Image

After hinting that I felt well enough for a little steam-up, my carer agreed just so long as I didn't have my head down for too long.
"Single fill, radio control" thought I, so it was a case of ~ Prepare The Earl!

Image

Fancy a trip along the Westwood & Loscoe? - I haven't posted one for a while, so here goes.......

The signalman at Robin Square checks his watch

Image

as The Earl takes the loop to join the head of the 11:30 Up Mixed,

Image

before waiting for the Down train heading to Bagthorpe Colliery.

Image

After the right away, we catch a photo opportunity through The Alley,

Image

and again at Golden Valley Halt,

Image

Riddings,

Image

Codnor Wood,

Image

and make good time passing Codnor Castle signal box.

Image

where a mixed rake of quarry empties wait for the road.

Image

finally arriving on time at Loscoe just as the livestock pens are filling up (well, it's wednesday, so it is market day!).

Image

While we're at Loscoe, we see Blodwen arrive with the 14:00 mixed.

Image

Then, after having a liquid lunch in The Flag & Whistle, we catch Myfanwy in charge of the return, which has now picked up the livestock vans,

Image

and get back to Robin Square just in time to see one of the Heritage Loco's in action ~ Compton Steel in charge of "the resin rake" ;)

Image

Nice simple battery power while I sat and enjoyed a cuppa! 8)
Really enjoyed myself, but I'm cream-crackered now!

Greg, great to hear you are recovering nicely, and were allowed to run trains again. Those are some very nicely themed shots that you have shared with us.

Pity about not visiting the full size WLLR & the adjacent Garden Railway Show - just recently downloaded the YouTube video of the Resita destroying itself again!

Chris Cairns.
