It looks comparable even with the difference between the station building and water tower is quite parallel between the real inspirations.
Unfortunately I've lost one of my paints (reddish brown) and will have to wait until Friday to be able to pick another one up as well as other finishings for the station masters house. So until then most of my building work has ceased.
However I have made a start on some signals in the mean time. The arms are pretty much made up and the post have been cut.

Now, I've been known to be very snippy about matters of a signalling nature, it being my particular passion. In this case I absolutely agree with the forgoing comments - you've made a belting job of those arms chap. The detail of the bolting between the spectacle plate and the blade is really impressive and I love the curve of the spectacles themselves. I'm really looking forward to seeing them develop.

I agree with the previous comments....love the signal arms!
What are going to use for the lenses?
I have some (loads of) theatre lantern colour gel --- translucent plastic essentially...if you need a bit you can send me a stamped envelope and i'll post you some back!
Keep up the amazing work with your models, I can't wait to see more

Garden railways don't run on steam or electric rather wine and Jedi master level patience
Go to agree - lovely items - I've bought mine in off ebay and they are great but there is something about signals and being able to make your own to fit the exact requirements of the line which standard set ups don't always fit
Will be watching developments on these closely

Where did I put that uncoupler?

Cheers guys
I wish I had seen this earlier, James as I've just added the spectacles today. (are you a theatre man by any chance?)
They're real wood but I'm undecided as to leave them out of bring them in after running sessions.
Well, they been painted up (hand painted so there are some inconstancies).
I'll be putting them to one side until I can get other bits finished.

Well, after a few months of wondering when this could all be wrapped up we re now seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. But it's still in the distances, however.
The station is about 95% complete with the building work in place. Some bits of furniture and maybe peoples will complete the look - oh and also the station lamps which I need to think of a way to make them work.
Overall all that need to be done now is for the signals and signal box to be built - maybe add a plate layers hut and another building (a cheap windmill from BnM or something) reballast and wait for the flowers to grow! .
The down side is we are now talking about possibly moving in the near future to accommodate my degree and my partners work so I would like to see this completed before I tackle the sad task of demolition to rebuild elsewhere.

Its all looking very good.
It will be a shame if you do have to move before being able to enjoy the completed works, but OTOH, most of it can be put in boxes and taken with you and when you are able to start again you'll have accumulated a lot of knowledge to make the next version even better.

aye it would be a real shame but I'm hoping can be done by easter which would give me a couple of months to enjoy before we started looking around. It was really just designed to be a temporary fixture in the end and as you said. the important bits can be packed away until needed.
Well onwards to completion.
I've finally made a start on my last major building. The signal box - I'm hoping to try and consider these with my signals which should take me to easter. The signal box itself is model town like the others and is being modified to include a veranda, detailed interior and a wooden protection for the point rodding (that I have any rodding, or points). To be finished in green like pickering station or Whitby town signal box in the 60's.

Re: The G&DLR begins.
I have now come one step closer to having the line completed. I decided to colour coordinate my line in relation to that of my local and most favoured railway, the NYMR. so basically, I managed to cram 18 miles of railway into 8ft .
The signal box is now done and placed in the line along with modified veranda as the Modeltown steps on their own didn't fill me with admiration. Naturally, I went into overkill with the photos including the oblatory night shots.
I did forgot my 3 quarter shot of the line however I did find a snazzy panoramic setting on my phone.
In a sense the line is now done - there is no real need for signals, but I like signals and it would add a final sense of completion. That being said as well, it seems pointless to have a station without a town so plans are in the works to create something quirky where the plants didn't sprout... watch this space...

Re: The G&DLR begins.
Cheers guys - the signal box is usually victim to the elements i.e my cats who don't appreciate the intricate value of the fittings I've added. So between my last post and this one, some repairs have had to be enacted...
Well, some of the plants survived, other did not so it's a slight renovation to see what works this time. The land is looking a little bare now but I've seeded some wild flowers and partial shade loving plants to see what takes effect this time.
In other news, I've managed to sort out some ladder to the signals are back under way. Here's a shape of things to come.

Re: The G&DLR begins.
Well, overall I think I'm going to be as done as I can be for the moment. The final bit of major structural works completed and installed today - that being the signals.
I managed to solar power all of my signals (adapting cheap Wilko's maker lights)
There is still some fettling to be done with the signals - the home signals keep dropping back to danger and I want to use piano wire instead of sifter picture hanging wire I used instead.
In fact all of my buildings are solar powered now. Again my first attempt was relatively successful but I have some more powerful solar panels from lights which no longer work due to the elements but for the moments I'm pleasantly surprised.
For the moment I'm happy to finally have gotten a layout regardless but the bad news is that the line may have to be taken up due to a severe change in circumstance. I can't make an ideas on what going to happen just yet but it looks like I'll be restarting in no less than years time (lady luck smiling on us anyway) but for the moment he's some images of the the overall love now practically finished.

Re: The G&DLR begins.
Good luck Mr T. Some lovely shots there, love the glow in the signal box. We are big kids aren't we? It all looks magical at night lit up. A lovely railway in a short space of time.
All the best for the next few years I'm sure I'll still be here building crappy wagons and generally being a misery.

Hi Syl, it's a shame to hear of another move but these things are sometimes unavoidable. You have proved to be determined and now have a good number of items to set in place when your new railway begins. Please keep us informed of progress and good luck with any changes.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
