Christmas quiz

Post by METHSSNIFFER » Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:28 am

Hi

How about a quiz to keep us entertained over the festive season. I suggest I start with a question, the first correct answer then sets the next question and so on..the winner is the one that answers the most questions. The topic being narrow gauge railways in England and Wales..you can use pics as well as. The quiz will run and finish at midnight on Boxing day!

So first question is

Where is this?

That is correct you may now set the next question well done. In the event of no one being able to answer within 24hrs of the previous question being set, the question setter may receive a point and set a further question. If the question setter is not able to reset the question then the previous setter will provide the question and the point will be thus rewarded to that previous setter.

Funnily enough it wasn't the actual building that made me know where it is, it was the tree line in the background, then worked backwards! I'll have to dig through my photos now

I thought I'd set a challenging one:

Where is this:

I know it's standard gauge, BUT, before GWR arrived it used to be narrow gauge, and escaped the Beeching cuts and you can still see the line as it is here!

Correct! This was taken just before the old gantry was taken down at the end of the line where the Nuclear Flasks were put on the specially built waggons!

and the chairs that were used were old GWR ones that dated from 1900!

anyway, I thought I'd share that as I find it rather interesting, back on topic

Moved to off topic because of the prototype rather then garden rail content, otherwise carry on quizzing!
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Okay, here's mine.

What was the name of the second 0-6-0 supplied to the original Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway?

Ooo. I'd better think of one then.. Watch this space.

This has three answers.....

In the Welsh [1] slate industry, three steam locomotives were converted to electricity - what were the original names of all three steam engines?

[1] can't recall if there was one in Cornwall, there wasn't in Lakeland slate.
