Spotted this little pair at the weekend.
Something to do with that Lister casting that you just couldn't resist buying at the last show you attended.

I just noticed I haven't got any shots of the other side, if anyone is interested I may try and get back. Although it's just the other side of the engine really.

Looks very similar to a Wrigley, a type of groundsman's vehicle used in parks etc.
Many years ago I worked as a groundsman for a municipal authority in New Zealand and we had one of these to buzz about in. Ours had a hand operated hydraulic tipping mechanism for the rear cargo tray to assist in unloading tree/grass clippings, manure etc. Quite fond of my Wrigley I was.

Brilliant photo and a great find. It must at one time be allowed on the road with having a number plate on. Wonder if it needed to have road tax also.....

Just catching up with this thread - and most others, come to that!

The carriage interiors are great, thank you! In particular they answer a question I've pondered of late, namely should carriage floorboards be transverse or longitudinal. The answer, as I should have guessed, seems to be that it depends on the carriage. The reason I was wondering is that I'm thinking about making a model of the NWNGR Ashbury brake composite that was cut down and ran as a bogie flat in WHR days, and that's gonna be all floor...

A fascinating prototype I came across recently was this FfR side tipping wagon converted from a 3 ton slate wagon: https://www.festipedia.org.uk/wiki/Four ... ate_waggon

I quite fancy having a go at making one - I don't know if it fits my 20's/30's vibe, but Ffestipedia says it's pre-1954, so I reckon I'd be alright...

Their post-Covid relaunch has been fantastic - trips to Tan-y-Bwlch and back featuring compartment (and so generally older) carriages and smaller engines, including Welsh Pony, working its first trains in 80 years. Every day's like a gala!

Trains leave Porthmadog every hour and 5 mins after 10am, crossing at Minffordd, and with a layover at Tan-y-Bwlch, each of which has a webcam, so after the 11:10's left Port there are three trains in action, plenty to watch.

Here's a screenshot from the weekend, when the last train was replaced with a special formed of Britomart and Vans 4 and 5:

Thanks for this reminder Andrew. I used to like watching the webcams as I'm not likely to see the railway in real life, but gave up after the camera's being repeatedly inoperative.

Just looked at the live webcam Andrew. The Porthmadog camera is showing some people moving around already. And unlike here in New Longton, it's not raining....

They've got much better recently, although the Minffordd one isn't great, it often buffers, which is a shame because it's my favourite camera - trains cross there, and you get a lovely view of them rounding the bend...

The weather changes so quickly in the top left corner of Wales, it can be pouring one minute, then glorious sunshine. Sometimes you can see trains emerging from the mist, which I rather like...

Yes, was watching last night and just as Blanche or Linda came into view leaving Minfford it buffered. Grrr!!

We have just returned from a few days holiday in Scotland. There we were meandering about near Loch Ness when SWMBO said, "Are we anywhere near Harry Potter's bridge?", by which she of course mean't Glenfinnan Viaduct. A quick think later I replied, "It's not too far, we could nip over there tomorrow morning if you want to."
It threw it down with rain overnight but next morning was dry but Scotch Misty as we set off. When we got there, the car park was absolutely chocker and the Visitor Centre doesn't open on Monday and Tuesday??, went a bit further along the road but nowhere to park, came back down and there were people parking in an adjacent field so in we went, praying that we didn't get bogged down like some others were.
Saw signs to "The Viewpoint" so up we went. On the way we passed a chap coming down who commented "Lovely view, but people just stand there for ages getting in the way so I can't get a decent picture". When we got to the top there did indeed seem to be lots of people just standing around doing nothing, then, literally 2 minutes later, I heard a faint noise but not wanting to seem stupid I refrained from saying, "That doesn't half sound like a steam engine". A few seconds later, what should appear but 'The Jacobite', running on to "Concrete Bob" McAlpine's finest creation! No wonder people were hanging around, but I had absolutely no idea it was coming!
I was so suprised that I took a few stills as it was on the viaduct and only remembered to switch to video as it got to the end, fortunately the Boss had her iPad running and got the first section.



PS - We did just get out of the field OK.

Work is progressing well on the full sized replica of one of the Southwold Sharp Stewart 2-4-0T locos. Shouldn't be long now before it's in steam ....

You'll have to scale up your plans and print them a couple of carriages to go with it Rik...

I knew it was happening, but I hadn't realised they'd got this far either. Doesn't sound like there'll be much line for it to run on, which is a shame given that it'll be such a lovely loco. Maybe it could go on holiday to the IoM?
